Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake, Shania Twain, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Missy Elliott and Sean Paul are among the artists receiving multiple nominations for the American Music Awards (AMAs). “American Idol” second-season runner-up Clay Aiken also received his first awards show nod, with a nomination for favorite pop/rock male artist. My Life As A Pop Chick

What everyone always wants to know is: who’s the worst? Meaning: which really famous person out there is a berk whose lack of personality is in inverse proportion to their abundance of fame? And the answer is, of course, all of them. No, it’s not. It’s Jon Bon Jovi. The next question – who’s the best, of course – is more difficult. The interviewees I like are the ones that turn out to be more than you expected, whether that’s more intelligent, or honest, or bonkers, or fun, whatever. And there are plenty of those. Madonna (sharper), Björk (wilder), James… Read more »

Super Bowl Packs In Music Stars

The lineup of musical acts at this year’s Super Bowl is so long that you might think the football game was the sideshow. The National Football League says it will be the most entertainment-packed Super Bowl ever, with performances by U2, PaulMcCartney, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Part of the reason for the celebrity overflow is a patriotic theme after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which caused the Super Bowl to be pushed back a week. “With the events of September 11th, we’ve redefined and… Read more »

Copyright Lobby Seeks To Scrap Online Music Bill

A broad coalition of entertainment companies, advertisers and sports leagues will descend on Capitol Hill in Washington on Monday, seeking to scrap U.S. legislation requiring music labels to offer the same licensing deal at the same price to all online music ventures. “That measure would create a number of new regulations and impediments for the electronic distribution of copyrighted material before the marketplace has a chance to develop on its own and would cause enormous harm to consumers,” the Copyright Assembly said in the letter to lawmakers. The coalition includes the Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association… Read more »

STP, Live Enliven Beer Bash

If last year’s inaugural Rolling Rock Town Fair was the beta edition, this year’s event, billed as Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0, definitely was an improved version -logistically, at least. Musically, it could be argued that, while Saturday’s headliners Live and Stone Temple Pilots really delivered, they were no match for last year’s Moby and the Red Hot Chili Peppers combo. The daylong event at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds, an hour or so southeast of Pittsburgh (concert traffic notwithstanding), also featured metal-minded modern rockers Deftones, Incubus, Staind, Tantric and Oleander… and, of course, beer. The entire event, in marketing terms, is… Read more »
