Durst, Kiss, Everclear Come Out For 'Rock Star' Premiere

An onslaught of rock stars-including Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Third Eye Blind’s Stephan Jenkins, Everclear, and members of Kiss and Def Leppard-came out Tuesday (September 5) to witness the Los Angeles premiere of the movie that captures the glory of their occupation, Rock Star. The premise of the movie is that a fan who fronts a tribute band to his favorite group gets the break of a lifetime and fronts the real band instead. Limp Bizkit’s Durst tells LAUNCH that, if it was his story, he’d be singing the songs of one album in particular: “If I could be in… Read more »

Offspring, Incubus Lead Fierce Inland Invasion – Review

If one point was driven convincingly home at this all-day modern rock festival, it’s that southern California has a lot of really great bands treading the boards these days. Six of the best of the bunch (which also includes Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, 311 and even Blink-182) headlined this charity gathering, sponsored by L.A.’s KROQ-FM, and Levi’s – and each band’s strong performance lived up to the considerable preshow hype. The post-Sublime reggae-dub bunch Long Beach Dub Allstars kicked off the action on the bigger of two stages around 4 p.m. with 30 minutes of laid-back tracks from their… Read more »

Linkin Park's Bennington Suffering From Bite

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington will seek treatment for a poisonous spider bite he received on August 8 at a hotel in the Boston area (Mansfield, Massachusetts) while on OzzFest tour. A portion of Bennington’s arm has swelled, and he was running a fever, but he did manage to complete the two remaining OzzFest shows at PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey over the weekend (August 11 and 12). A management representative said that people who are bit by a Recluse Spider usually require hospitalization. The end of the tour couldn’t have come at a better time. Guitarist Brad… Read more »

STP, Live Enliven Beer Bash

If last year’s inaugural Rolling Rock Town Fair was the beta edition, this year’s event, billed as Rolling Rock Town Fair 2.0, definitely was an improved version -logistically, at least. Musically, it could be argued that, while Saturday’s headliners Live and Stone Temple Pilots really delivered, they were no match for last year’s Moby and the Red Hot Chili Peppers combo. The daylong event at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds, an hour or so southeast of Pittsburgh (concert traffic notwithstanding), also featured metal-minded modern rockers Deftones, Incubus, Staind, Tantric and Oleander… and, of course, beer. The entire event, in marketing terms, is… Read more »

Freddie Say 'Relax': Limp Bizkit Remake Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Freddie’s already gone to Hollywood – now he’s taking his band to the Pleasuredome. Limp Bizkit have recorded a version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s sexually charged 1984 hit “Relax” for the Ben Stiller film “Zoolander.” “It is the bomb, it is so dope,” said electronic artist/producer BT, who is scoring the movie, of the track last week. “It’s not really a cover – you’ll know what I mean when you hear it…. It’s sorta like if a band did a remix.” The original “Relax,” known for its “Relax, don’t do it” refrain, appeared on the dance group’s Welcome to… Read more »

Music Fans Possessed By "Devil"

D12, Eminem’s original Detroit rap crew, opened at number one with its debut release, Devil’sNight. The disc was produced by Eminem and prominently features the rhymes of the controversial hip-hopster. D12 (short for the Dirty Dozen) is the first group on Eminem’s Interscope-distributed Shady Records. “We made a pact years ago,” says Eminem. “Whichever one of us gets signed comes back for the rest.” For the week ending Sunday, Devil’s Night sold 371,000 copies, according to SoundScan. The numbers were significantly lower than the 500,000 million retailers predicted and the 1.76 million first week enjoyed by Eminem’s last solo effort,… Read more »

Linkin Park To Join STP, Staind On Family Values

Eerie rap-metal sextet Linkin Park will join Stone Temple Pilots and angst-ridden hitmakers Staind on the third edition of Family Values this fall. “As it stands right now, it’ll be Stone Temple Pilots, with us playing before them and Linkin Park playing before us, and then two unknown bands that I’m sure will rock also,” Staind frontman Aaron Lewis said. A source close to Linkin Park confirmed the Southern California group is on the trek. Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland said in April that STP would top the bill. Family Values producer John Scher said Monday (June 25) that… Read more »

STP Make Surprise Appearance At Weenie Roast

This ninth edition of the KROQ Weenie Roast, which saw the annual all-day charity festival return to its traditional Irvine home after it was held in Anaheim last year, was largely divided into distinct segments representing two contrasting sides of modern rock music. There were the angry young hard rock bands (Disturbed, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Crazytown), who toiled under the hot afternoon sun, and the superior veteran headliners (Jane’s Addiction, Blink-182, 311, surprise guests Stone Temple Pilots), who brought the better music and benefited from their post-sunset show times. Occupying a mid-day space somewhere between those groupings was the… Read more »

311 And Shaq Get 'Psycho' Onstage In L.A.

Shaquille O’Neal and 311 hooked up to perform a version of the basketball star’s new song, “Psycho” during a Los Angeles-area gig Saturday (June 23), according to the Los Angeles Times. O’Neal joined the rap-rockers onstage during their set at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, California as part of the annual Weenie Roast, hosted by Southern California alt-rock radio giant KROQ. The 300-pound superstar made the most of his brief concert appearance-crowd surfing during his performance and, later, hovering over the crowd in a helicopter as Staind took its turn on stage, the newspaper reports. The pairing was a… Read more »
