Ben Folds thrives without Five – Review

A spirited performance and a clear delineation of material Monday helped Ben Folds re-establish himself – and prove the viability of a solo career – without the two musicians who constituted the “Five” in his old band. Songs from the new album “Rockin’ the Suburbs” dominated the first hour of music, save for the tragically comical “Karaoke Superstar,” and after a quick break, Folds took the stage solo for 25 minutes of earlier tunes until joined again by the band for “Song for the Dumped.” Folds, on record and in concert, has proven himself quite proficient with no numbers after… Read more »

However, it looks like Left Eye is ready to stop selling wolf-tickets and show and prove. Supernova is scheduled to arrive on August 14, and the album’s first single, “The Block Party,” is… Read more »

You can dismiss Blink-182 as cartoons if you like. They’re certainly not going to stop you. It sums up Blink-182’s wiseass brat-punk ethos almost as well as their recent live album, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back), which featured the butt-stupidest stage banter since Kiss’ Alive! (Mark: “You can leave now and beat the traffic!” Tom: “Or you can stay and beat your meat!” – and they get paid for… Read more »
