“Dashboard,” the first single from Modest Mouse’s upcoming Epic album ” We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank ,” will hit U.S. radio outlets Jan. 16, Billboard.com has learned. He was once dubbed “the unhappiest man in the land.” His most renowned song was called “Miss Misery.” Nevertheless, Elliott Smithsounded disappointed that he was often asked, “Why are you so sad?” The singer-songwriter, whose fragile Beatles-tinged melodies elevated to him mythic status on the indie scene and brought him unlikely Oscar-nominated success, died Tuesday of an apparent suicide at his apartment in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, officials said. Daybreaker, the techno-folkie’s third full-length album, due July 30, features beats from Brothers Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons on the title track. Other guests on the record include alt-country alchemist Ryan Adams harmonizing on “Concrete Sky” and composing on “OK,” veteran Emmylou Harris contributing vocals to the ballad “God Song,” and ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr playing on several tracks. “Paris Train,” “Ted’s Waltz,” “Mt. The Pet Shop Boys finished their ninth album yesterday. The as-yet-untitled release is due in March. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe turned fourteen tracks over to engineer Michael Brauer, who finished mixing the tracks on November 3rd. Brauer handed the tracks back to the duo who pulled eleven for the final product. Tennant and Lowe recruited former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr to play on nine of the album tracks, with Jodie Linscott (Elton John, Billy Bragg) adding percussion. Atlantic Records has announced the forthcoming release of the new studio album from Tori Amos. Entitled “STRANGE LITTLE GIRLS,” this assemblage of songs is due in stores on September 18th.
