Payable on Death are in the midst of a resurrection. There’s no question that P.O.D. sound different without original guitarist Marcos Curiel. His replacement, Jason Truby, plays a more rigid and precise style of guitar, informed by bands like Metallica and Helmet, while Curiel’s technique was loose and sweeping, influenced by Carlos Santana as much as by Korn. Hoobastank Guitarist Suffers Head Injury; Tour Off


The guitarist with modern rock band Hoobastank is in serious but stable condition following surgery for a head injury sustained during a motorbike accident earlier this week in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. A guitar owned and played by the late Jimi Hendrix has remained unsold at auction after failing to reach its reserve price, a spokesman for auctioneers Cooper Owen said on Thursday. The 1965 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster was billed as the highlight of a “Rock Legend” sale, with the auctioneers hoping to achieve a sale price of up to 150,000 pounds. Guitar Owners Win Suit Vs. Hendrix Estate


Owners of a 1967 Fender Stratocaster, which they claim once belonged to Jimi Hendrix, have won a suit against the legendary musician’s estate for interfering with a sale of the guitar. A jury awarded Rock Stars Guitars $131,000 Friday, finding that Hendrix’s estate hurt the company’s efforts to auction the guitar by questioning its authenticity. Lynyrd Guitarist Can Return to Touring


Seven weeks after heart bypass surgery, doctors cleared Lynyrd Skynyrd founding lead guitarist Gary Rossington to return to touring with the southern rock band starting in June. Rossington, 51, underwent the quintuple bypass surgery Feb. 25 at an Atlanta-area hospital. Band spokesman Lathum Nelson said Thursday in Los Angeles that the cardiologist gave Rossington the green light to return to stage June 13 in Karlsruhe, Germany. “Since his surgery, Gary has done well. After nine months of recording with at least five different guitar players, Limp Bizkit still aren’t finished with their new album.
