Christina Aguilera And Jimmy Smits To Co-Host 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards


Grammy-winning artist Christina Aguilera and Emmy Award-winning actor Jimmy Smits will co-host the 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards telecast. Grammy-winning artist Marc Anthony will perform, and Destiny’s Child will perform with the previously announced Alejandro Sanz, it was announced today by Michael Greene, President/CEO of the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. Vivendi Universal Closes On Acquisition Of MP3.Com


Vivendi Universal (Paris Bourse: EX FP; NYSE:V) announced that it successfully completed the acquisition of San Diego-based MP3.com, Inc. in a combined cash and stock transaction on August 28, 2001. MP3.com stockholders voted in favor of the merger transaction at a special meeting of stockholders held Monday, August 27, 2001. MP3.com was delisted from Nasdaq effective prior to opening for trading Tuesday, August 28. Of the more than 69 million shares outstanding, over 68 percent were voted. Singer Aaliyah's Body Flown To United States


The body of the late pop and soul singer Aaliyah was flown back to the United States Tuesday as safety experts examined the plane that crashed in the Bahamas, killing her and eight others. A private jet carrying the body of the 22-year-old singer and movie actress landed at Newark International Airport in New Jersey, and a hearse carried the casket away to an unknown location, according to sources. NSYNC Drops Jackson Tribute For VMA


*NSYNC will not be performing at the all-star salute to Michael Jackson due to scheduling conflicts, according to the event’s producer David Gest. In the Fall of 2001, Virgin Records will release the long awaited Smashing Pumpkins “Greatest Hits” album. The tracks for the compilation are currently being selected by the band.
