Tiger Army Plan Tentative Trip To Canada

Psychobilly freaks don’t get your creepers in a knot, but Tiger Army singer/guitarist Nick 13 expects the band to do their first cross-Canada headlining tour some time in the very near future. “I don’t know if it’s just speculation… maybe my own heartfelt desires but I think we’re on track for a proper Canadian tour,” he says with excitement. “I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, ‘cause if it doesn’t happen soon, it won’t happen for a really long time… but I can’t help it.” Able to count the times this psychobilly power trio responsible for such luminary efforts… Read more »

Linkin Park's Summer Tour Now Twice As Big

The Projekt Revolution Tour was launched by Linkin Park in 2002 to showcase a diverse range of acts and to turn the band’s fans on to music they might not normally listen to. This year the Revolution will be even more diverse, thanks to the addition of a second stage. Acts confirmed for the second stage so far include Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ghostface, Welsh emo-metal band Funeral for a Friend and rap-metal veterans Downset, with more to be announced. “There might be a couple of up-and-comers, but I think the second stage will really be groups that are on the… Read more »

X-ecutioners Collaboration May Leave Fans Scratching Heads

For Built From Scratch, the X-ecutioners’ 2002 collection of scratching and samples, the New York turntablists recruited a host of rappers, including Xzibit, Everlast and Inspectah Deck to add vocals. They also teamed up with rap-metal band Linkin Park to record the crunching pounder “It’s Goin’ Down,” which became a surprise hit. So when it came time to record their follow-up album, Revolutions, due May 25, the X-ecutioners decided to again fuel their acrobatic scratches with high-octane doses of metal, only this time they summoned Rob Zombie for a remake of White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human” from 1995’s Astro… Read more »

Cobain's Art Shows Flip Side of Genius

Leland Cobain spreads a few yellowing pieces of art across his dining room table. The Aberdeen Museum of History, in the next town over, has asked him to contribute to an exhibit about his grandson, late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. One adorable Christmas card Kurt made for his grandparents at age 13 shows a hapless toddler, fishing, who has hooked the back of his shirt. There are radiant watercolor seascapes and depictions of Disney characters. Then there are the other paintings, in an apartment 55 miles northeast of Leland’s trailer. They are surrealistic, stark and powerful, revealing skeletons, aliens and… Read more »

Britney Spears' Puzzling New Video Has Singer Drowning In Fame

Britney Spears is getting into that “Leaving Las Vegas” frame of mind. The singer is going to stage her suicide in her new video for “Everytime,” as a way to respond to rumors and reports that she’s teetering on the brink, seeking help, in therapy or otherwise disturbed. Call the clip Britney’s funhouse mirror – it’ll reflect her life, but distort it, too. Spears’ follow-up to “Toxic” – her first #1 single since 2000’s “Oops!… I Did it Again” – will be shot in Los Angeles but set in Sin City, home of her quickie marriage. Though “Everytime” is a… Read more »

Velvet Revolver Album Preview: GN'R + STP = Uphill Battle

The odds are stacked against Velvet Revolver. Their singer, Scott Weiland, is currently in drug rehab for the umpteenth time. Who knows if he’ll be a free man when it’s time to tour, and judging from his past history, it could be a struggle for him to stay clean when the band hits the road. As for his bandmates – ex-Guns N’ Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums), and former Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Dave Kushner – they’re ready to rock, but there’s some question whether the rock community is ready to embrace them. Over a… Read more »

Britney Spears' Quickie Marriage Annulled

Britney Spears’ two-day-old marriage to a childhood friend was dissolved Monday shortly after the pop superstar filed for an annulment, claiming she didn’t fully understand what she was doing when she got hitched on the spur of the moment. Clark County Family Court Judge Lisa M. Brown signed the order at 12:24 p.m., said Las Vegas attorney David Chesnoff, who was cleaning up after a weekend frolic between Spears and Jason Allen Alexander. “There is no marriage now,” Chesnoff told The Associated Press. “Jason agreed to this completely. They’ve made a wise decision. I know they care about each other.… Read more »

Blink-182's 'I Miss You' Might Be Missing From Their Shows

There’s one drawback to Blink-182’s decision to release “I Miss You” as their next single. “This is the thing, the song’s really hard to play,” singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge said backstage at KROQ-FM’s annual Almost Acoustic Christmas on Sunday. “We’ve never played it before. We might play it in the future, or we might have it on a ghetto blaster onstage and we might do an interpretive dance. It’s one of those things, but it’s gonna be good, though, no matter what it is.” It’s not like the band doesn’t have a good excuse for not having the ballad of sorts… Read more »

The Raveonettes: Kids In America

There may not be something rotten in Denmark, but there must be something strange in the air when it comes to their cultural relationship with America. At least it seems that way when you look at some of the country’s most interesting exports. Just last month, Toronto was treated to a screening of Lars Von Trier’s new film, Dogville, and a concert in support of The Raveonettes’ new album, Chain Gang Of Love. Both were about America. Although The Raveonettes have admitted to being influenced by Von Trier’s Dogma 95 films, their opinions on The States couldn’t be more different.… Read more »
