Linkin Park Donates $100,000 to Tsunami Relief

New York – With memories of a successful summer tour in Southeast Asia still fresh in their minds, the members of Linkin Park are spearheading an effort to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that have devastated the region. The Los Angeles-based rock act has set up an organization called Music for Relief (http://www.musicforrelief.org) with an initial donation of $100,000. It will directly support American Red Cross programs. “We are fortunate to be in a position to help, but this needs to be a broader effort,” said guitarist Brad Delson. “If one of our fans can donate $10, then… Read more »

Linkin Park Establish Charity To Help Tsunami Victims

Awed, humbled and shocked by the destruction caused by the tsunamis that hammered southern Asia earlier this week, Linkin Park have teamed up with the American Red Cross to establish Music for Relief, a charity dedicated to providing aid to victims of the tragedy. Linkin Park have donated $100,000 to get things going, and they’re hoping their fans and musical brethren will follow suit. “As a band, we were in a position to help, but this needs to be a lot broader effort – both by our fans and by other musicians,” Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said. “If one… Read more »

Linkin Park Rocks the Year-End Chart

Linkin Park has proved itself impervious to critics, genres and the rest of the competition on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, as the juggernaut of its “Meteora” album (Warner Bros.) continues its momentum from last year. Four songs from the band’s sophomore album charted on the year-end Modern Rock Tracks recap, with three finishing in the top 10. This earns the act the No. 1 spot on the year-end Hot Modern Rock Artists chart. “Numb” was the year’s second-most-spun song in modern rock, while “Breaking the Habit” and “Lying From You” came in at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. “Faint”… Read more »

If Linkin Park Are Done With Him, P.O.D. Want To Borrow Jay-Z

To record what is shaping up to be their heaviest album yet, P.O.D. have spent the past three months living and brainstorming in the former Palm Springs, California, home of sunny ’60s folk-rock quartet the Mamas and the Papas. The area, which now mostly houses retired couples, would probably rather have had the “California Dreamin’ ” singers as neighbors than the dreadlock-waving, guitar-thrashing writers of “Boom” and “Youth of the Nation,” but the San Diego rockers were gracious residents. “We had to go to all the neighbors’ houses and tell them that we were a rock and roll band and… Read more »

Linkin Park, Jay-Z on 'Course' Together

Multiplatinum acts Jay-Z and Linkin Park are the latest to merge musical forces in a legally sanctioned mash-up. With the help of MTV, the two acts have taken the concept – which intertwines two songs, often placing the vocals of one track atop an instrumental section of another track – one step further. Instead of simply doing a mash-up remix of one track, as other artists have done, Jay-Z and Linkin Park have created an entire CD/DVD project based on the mash-up concept. The result, “MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents Jay-Z/Linkin Park: Collision Course,” arrived Nov. 30 from Warner Bros. The… Read more »

Linkin Park Feel The Chemistry With Jay-Z

Linkin Park love to mix things up. Their two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, consistently and seamlessly blend different styles of music together, melding rap and rock with just enough electronic flourish to keep the ears burning and turning that blend into a digestible, accessible pop formula for millions of hungry fans to eat up. In the last three years the band have sold several million albums worldwide, sold out arenas around the globe, toured with Metallica and progressed further than all their long-since-disappeared rap-rock contemporaries. They are (as our May 2003 issue featuring ’em on them cover declares) the… Read more »

Linkin Park's Summer Tour Now Twice As Big

The Projekt Revolution Tour was launched by Linkin Park in 2002 to showcase a diverse range of acts and to turn the band’s fans on to music they might not normally listen to. This year the Revolution will be even more diverse, thanks to the addition of a second stage. Acts confirmed for the second stage so far include Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ghostface, Welsh emo-metal band Funeral for a Friend and rap-metal veterans Downset, with more to be announced. “There might be a couple of up-and-comers, but I think the second stage will really be groups that are on the… Read more »

Linkin Park Avoid Bodily Harm In New Video By Using Anime Stand-Ins

Linkin Park are saving the best for last. The final single from their 2003 album, Meteora, will be their favorite track, “Breaking the Habit.” They dig the tune so much, in fact, that they’re planning to use it as a model when they start working on their next album in October. “Creatively, ‘Breaking the Habit’ is one of the songs we’re most proud of,” guitarist Brad Delson said. “It’s so familiar, but at the same time it’s so foreign to anything we’ve ever done. It really is just a unique animal, and when we approach making the next record, I… Read more »

Linkin Park Caught Unprepared As Fans Flock To 'Lying'

Linkin Park have the kind of problem bands like to have. The ambitious video for Meteora’s scheduled next single is taking longer to finish than expected, and while the band has been waiting patiently, radio programmers and fans have not. Instead, a different song, “Lying From You,” is blowing up and Linkin Park have no video prepared. “I’m not sure if we’re going to do an actual video for it because there’s only so much sh- you can do with one record,” singer Chester Bennington said. “It’s like we can’t make a video for every song on the record, so… Read more »
