U2's Bono To Tour AIDS-Ravaged Africa Coming Next Week

U2 frontman Bono’s next tour is less than a week away, although it won’t find the internationally famous singer performing in the glimmering sporting arenas of the first world. Instead, Bono will visit the AIDS-ravaged terrain of Sub-Saharan Africa with U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill beginning May 20. The 10-day-tour will take the unlikely duo to schools, AIDS clinics, and various World Bank development projects in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Ethiopia, AP reports. Bono has long used his fame as a platform to speak out about the situation, which has seen more than 22 million Africans claimed by AIDS,… Read more »

Eminem Album Preview: Slim As Shady As Ever

The “boogeyman of rap” is busting his gun, pistol-whipping one of his cheating mate’s lovers, contemplating other grisly forms of violence and taking a leak on the White House lawn – and that’s just by the midpoint of The Eminem Show. Yes, ladies and gents, “Shady’s back,” as he proclaims in his first single, “Without Me,” and Eminem still has a lot to vent. As soon as the curtain opens on Em’s third solo album, it’s clear all of the rapper’s frustrations that have been building up over the last two years since The Marshall Mathers LP are going to… Read more »

Eminem To Pay $100,000 To Man Who Kissed His Wife

Eminem has settled the civil lawsuit brought against him by the man he allegedly assaulted for kissing his then-wife Kimberly Mathers. The rapper will pay John Guerra $100,000 minus attorney fees, an amount determined by a panel of three impartial attorneys who heard evidence from both sides in what is known as a case evaluation. Although Eminem’s attorney, Peter Peacock, told The Macomb Daily the settlement was more than his client hoped to pay, and Guerra’s attorney, John Gaber, said it was less than his client wanted, both agreed to the sum rather than taking the case to trial. Neither… Read more »

Cold Singer Relates To Road-Weary Wrestlers

When the creators of the upcoming WWF album Tough Enough 2 asked Cold to contribute a track, frontman Scooter Ward was baffled. He thought, what did his music – riddled with gloomy, nihilist imagery and creepy underpinnings – have in common with the muscle-bound, over-the-top world of pro wrestling? Then it occurred to him that being in a band on the run and flying off the top turnbuckle night after night had some similarities after all. “I was writing a song for my kid at the same time,” Ward said last week. “Leaving home all the time, never being here… Read more »

Impulse Shopper Nelly Nearly Purchases Small Town

So after copping hot wheels that make hearts drop, a crib so plush that even haters have to salute, and enough ice to bring the room temperature down a couple of degrees, what does a multiplatinum rapper do to show he has his floss game down pat? How about spending enough dough to not only be the talk of the town, but to own it? It was exactly that aspiration that led to the title of Nelly’s next album. “I was riding right up by St. Peters, Missouri,” he said last week before a studio session with the Neptunes in… Read more »

Universal settles Calif. lawsuit with performers

A Los Angeles judge has tentatively approved a deal requiring record giant Universal Music to pay $4.75 million in back royalties to as many as 300 performers to settle a class-action lawsuit led by torch singer Peggy Lee, court papers showed Wednesday. Lee, 81, was the lead plaintiff in the two-year court case that claimed that Universal, a unit of Vivendi Universal, failed to pay her and other artists – many of whom are now dead – millions of dollars by underreporting sales figures and overcharging for services. Legal experts said this was the first class-action lawsuit on behalf of… Read more »

Chili Peppers' Releasing Home Video, Working On New LP

Fireplaces and feet are not the only places you’ll see tube socks this Christmas season. Southern California funk rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose members occasionally wear only a strategically placed tube sock, are getting ready to release their first concert video in a decade. “Off the Map,” due December 4 on VHS and DVD, was filmed by Dick Rude at a September 2000 show in Portland, Oregon. The video includes recent Chili Peppers hits “Californication,” “Scar Tissue,” “Otherside,” “Under the Bridge” and “Give It Away,” along with older gems like “Blackeyed Blonde” from 1985’s Freaky Styley, according to… Read more »
