THE SUMMER OBSESSION Comes Into Their Season

If there’s a self-fulfilling prophecy in the musical landscape of the year, it’s the way the Virgin debut band THE SUMMER OBSESSION is coming into its own, with its crunchy pop-rock combination of guitar, electronics, and faultless songwriting, during the dog days of 2006. The Florida-based quartet — Luke, on keyboards and vocals; Chris, formerly of Good Charlotte, on drums and “shenanigans”; Fin, on guitar and vocals; and Christ, on bass, with Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, P!nk) producing and Ryan Williams engineering (OutKast, Rage Against the Machine) — will release the album “THIS IS WHERE YOU BELONG” on Virgin Records… Read more »

Warped Tour Main Stage Is A Long Time Coming For Yellowcard

While being well-prepared is almost always advised for a young band in the studio, spontaneous strokes of creativity are usually the moments the musicians remember best. Of the 13 songs that comprise Yellowcard’s latest album, Ocean Avenue, the band had a dozen of them hashed out beforehand. But while knee-deep in recording, the group stumbled across the riff that became the foundation for “Only One,” which is slated to be the album’s third single. “We discovered a riff for it by accident,” singer Ryan Key said. “We were testing something else out and just tracked it right away. We then… Read more »

Hoobastank have announced dates for a headlining club tour today. Kicking off August 20th in San Antonio, TX Hoobastank wanted to give their fans the rare opportunity to hear new songs from their forthcoming album in an intimate setting. “We are so psyched to play our new songs for our fans in a small club atmosphere,” says Hoobastank singer, Doug Robb. “There is nothing better than that intimate environment where we can hang out with our fans.” Labelmates, Die Trying and Letter Kills will open up for Hoobastank on the entire club run. Having spent the summer recording in their… Read more »

Where Mouth Geysers Meet Cheesy Macaroni – Warped (Tour) Indeed

It was as if the tattooed hand of a punk rock god reached down and anointed Andrew W.K. The hard partying rocker was enthusiastically playing his anthem “I Get Wet” as the skies opened up and a torrential downpour put an early end to the eighth stop on this year’s Vans Warped Tour. He always sports a maniacal smirk and a dirty T-shirt, but even W.K., surrounded on the stage by a dozen head-banging fans, couldn’t help but laugh. Just one week into a grueling cross-country summer trek, the ninth edition of the punk and extreme-sports tour experienced both kinds… Read more »

Nickelback To Launch Tour With Jerry Cantrell

With a sound that blends ’90s grunge with polished pop, it’s probably safe to assume that Nickelback spent their high school years listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. So, aside from the fact that they’re now labelmates, it’s easy to understand why Nickelback asked Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell to open a bunch of dates for them this summer. The tour will kick off May 13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the jaunt will pass through many major West Coast, Midwest and Southern cities. During the tour, Nickelback and Cantrell will perform at Country Jam USA… Read more »

Saves The Day Prep For Weezer Tour, Dismiss Detractors

For any young band, the idea of performing before thousands on their first arena tour is a daunting proposal. When the heroically titled Saves the Day were tapped as openers for Weezer’s North American tour, which begins February 5, however, they pushed the butterflies aside and focused instead on rising to the occasion. “Every tour that we go on, we hope to be more comfortable as a live band,” bassist Eben D’Amico said. “Just being able to do our thing onstage that much better. We’re always honing and perfecting what we do.” While the Princeton, New Jersey-rooted quintet may come… Read more »

P Roach Bring Studio On Tour

Papa Roach aren’t about to let touring get in the way of making a new album. So for this summer’s Ozzfest, the Northern California quartet has outfitted a spare bus with enough recording equipment to lay down rough tracks. “It’s a great opportunity to write music, because you’re in a pretty stimulating environment,” says frontman Coby Dick. “There is pressure to write a good second record, but we’re not trying to rush it.” Dick describes the songs written so far as “definitely bangin’ and groovin’,” and he says they explore serious themes without rehashing past hits such as “Last Resort”… Read more »
