White Stripes Deny Reports Of Imminent Break-Up

The White Stripes are denying reports about their imminent demise. Mojo magazine and other British publications have quoted Jack White as saying the band will release one more album and then break up. White said he “never made a statement like ‘Elephant is our last record’ or ‘The one after Elephant is the last record.’ That’s stupid. It was actually Mojo magazine misquoting us, which is surprising because they are usually on the ball. I only said that the band isn’t going to last forever, and that maybe we’d just do a couple more albums and that would be it.… Read more »

That stunned silence you’re hearing from across the pond might just be the sound of British pop fans’ speechless reaction after turning on their televisions and seeing Justin Timberlake jamming with the Flaming Lips. In another sign of their “anything goes” spirit, the Oklahoma psychedelic rockers invited the ‘NSYNC heartthrob to sit in on bass with them during a “Top of the Pops” performance of the title track from their recent album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. The segment, taped Thursday afternoon and slated to run Friday evening (January 24) in England, came about when Timberlake and Lips leader Wayne… Read more »

Eminem Enemy Triumph Previews LP; Beefs With Bow Wow, Benji

Now that Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s run-in with Eminem at the VMAs has blown over, the puppet pooch is about to start static with another pack of rappers. And like them, he’s cooking up his beef on wax. Triumph, who became Eminem’s unwitting sparring partner at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, said he expects to drop Songs in the Key of Poop this winter on Warner Bros. Records, although finishing touches are still being applied and a spokesperson for Warner couldn’t confirm the title at press time. The “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” correspondent has already secured a… Read more »

Avril Lavigne Takes Off Her Clothes For Rock Hall Of Fame

While many have left their hearts in San Francisco, Avril Lavigne will leave her clothes in Cleveland. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum intends to display the outfit the spunky 17-year-old singer/guitarist wore in her MTV Video Music Awards-nominated “Complicated” clip, according to a Hall spokesperson. While flattered at the honor, Lavigne is just as surprised as anyone that her baggy cargo shorts, fitted white tank top and signature necktie will hang in the same building that houses such illustrious memorabilia as John Lennon’s 1965 Rickenbacker 12-string and Hank Williams’ white wool cowboy hat. “I think that’s… Read more »

N.W.A. Reunion Stalled

It’s been well over a year since Dr. Dre first announced that a reunited N.W.A., with Snoop Dogg subbing for the late Eazy-E, had begun work on their first album in ten years, Not These Niggaz Again. Four members of the reformed gangsta squad – Dre, Snoop, Ice Cue and MC Ren – shared a bill on last summer’s Up in Smoke Tour, where they sketched beats and rhymes in a mobile recording studio. Last July, Dre said that the group’s lone absentee, DJ Yella, had signed on and that pending some legal issues with Priority Records – such as… Read more »
