Jewel, R.E.M. To Play Gay Men's Health Crisis Benefit


R.E.M. and Jewel will perform short sets at the third You Gotta Have Friends benefit for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis on January 31 at New York’s Carnegie Hall. The alternative rock pioneers are expected to play a 30 to 45-minute electric set, and Jewel will play an approximately 20-minute-long acoustic set. Supporters vow to save famed New Jersey music club


Supporters of the famed Stone Pony music club, which has fostered the careers of rock ‘n’ roll greats like Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, vowed on Thursday to save the club from the wrecking ball. Developers are proposing to tear the Stone Pony down to make way for retail complexes and condominiums along the waterfront of Asbury Park, a century-old resort which has deteriorated in the last three decades under the weight of crime and unemployment. A host of performers paid a live, televised tribute on Tuesday to John Lennon, portraying the slain musician as an artist whose words have taken on renewed meaning since the attacks on the World Trade Center. Lennon Tribute Rescheduled


“Come Together: A Night For John Lennon’s Words and Music,” the TNT tribute to the late Beatle, has been rescheduled for October 2nd at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
