Video Music Awards Sizzling but Shock Free

Holding its festivities for the first time in the city of skin, Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards was sizzling, energetic and colorful – yet tame, by MTV standards. There were no wardrobe malfunctions (sorry TiVo). Britney didn’t kiss Madonna like last year – or anyone else, for that matter (neither were at the blowout affair). The most skin shown was from Usher, who preened in front of the camera barechested as simulated raindrops fell on his chiseled body during the opening performance. Even the Christina Aguilera was classy, dressed sexy yet demurely as she debuted a jazzy number, “Tilt Ya… Read more »

Celebs! Music! Antics! (and some awards)

The trophy is a silly Moonman. Treasured memories include girl-on-girl kisses, a flying Fartman and the bobbling of a pasty-covered breast. Where other shows confer honors and respect, this one relishes gaffes, guffaws and giggles. Forget “The envelope, please.” It’s time to push the envelope. MTV’s Video Music Awards is among the most irreverent of awards shows. Which may be precisely why it matters. “It’s pop music; how seriously can you take it?” said MTV news correspondent Kurt Loder. “It’s not Martin Heidegger or something. There’s a lot of empty pomp associated with other shows, like the Oscars and even… Read more »

Britney Spears Engaged to Dancer Boyfriend

After initial denials, Britney Spears’ reps have now confirmed that the singer is engaged to her dancer boyfriend, Kevin Federline. Rumors began circulating after Spears’ knee injury that the couple were talking marriage, but her spokespeople dismissed the rumors and said that the two were “serious” but “definitely not engaged.” However, the story changed Friday afternoon (June 25), and Spears’ camp confirmed what people had been speculating all along. No details are available on the impending nuptials just yet, and the couple has yet to set a date. The news comes just six months after Spears was married for a… Read more »

MTV to Move Video Music Awards to Miami

MTV will take its irreverent Video Music Awards to Miami this year. The live event, in its 21st year, will be held Aug. 29 at the AmericanAirlines Arena, the cable television network announced Friday. It will be the first time the show is held outside Los Angeles or New York, which has hosted the awards in recent years. But because the Republican National Convention is scheduled for Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, having the VMAs in New York would have been difficult, said the VMA’s executive producer, Salli Frattini. “There were very, very limited venue possibilities in New York because… Read more »

Britney Spears & Pink Blow Off NBC's 'Today'

Britney Spears has canceled her scheduled concert on NBC’s Today show. The singer nixed the performance because the NBC aired a less-than-flattering feature about her, titled “Britney Unzipped,” on Dateline Sunday, that the singer was reportedly none too pleased about. Recently, Pink pulled out of a NBC’s Today show concert scheduled for Friday (November 14) after being told the concert would be canceled if she appeared onLive! With Regis And Kelly. Pink did appear on Regis on Tuesday, and as a bonus, she met one of her idols, Madonna, for the first time. Pink will now perform on ABC’sGood Morning… Read more »

Britney Tells BBC She's a Role Model

Britney Spears insists she is role model for young girls despite recent revealing magazine covers and her new album with sexually explicit lyrics, the British Broadcasting Corp. said Sunday. In a radio interview to be broadcast Monday, the 21-year-old pop star said parents should not be worried if their children want to copy her. “I probably have more older fans than the younger ones, but I think the reason why everyone talks about the younger fans so much is because the parents are concerned,” Spears was quoted as saying. “And in the end they shouldn’t be concerned because they should… Read more »

Britney Sexes Up the Music

If you can believe it, Britney Spears would like people to focus on her music, not her midriff. But seeing is believing, and since the debut of her music video “I’m a Slave 4 U” two years ago, fans have seen Spears take an increasingly provocative journey into sexual exhibitionism. From her love life to her infamous MTV Video Music Awards kiss with Madonna to her National Football League kickoff concert and her most recent performance in New York’s Times Square, the artist has tested the limits of her sexuality. But now comes the moment of truth. With her new… Read more »

Madonna's Got A Brand New Bag – And Britney's In It

Britney Gets Down With Madonna Again

Britney Spears is hooking up with Madonna once again – this time for the first single from her forthcoming album, now titled Get in the Zone. Though Spears was coy about what the first single would be when MTV News talked to her following her NFL Kickoff Live performance, it turns out that the song she previewed that night, “Me Against the Music,” will indeed be her first released track, featuring Madonna. The duo, of course, most recently caused controversy when they locked lips at the MTV Video Music Awards. The single – co-written by Spears and produced by RedZone… Read more »
