Limp Bizkit Changes Name to 'limpbizkit'

It looks like capitalization and spacing is no good any more for Fred Durst. He posted a message on Limp Bizkit’s Web site saying the band will now be known as limpbizkit with no capitals and no space between words. He gives no reason for the change. He seems to like playing around with words lately, given the changes he makes to the new album’s title. This week he said it would not be called “Bipolar” but instead “Fetus More.” He’s changed his mind again and now he’s calling it “The Search for Teddy Swoes.” Durst promises “it will all… Read more »

Rookie soul divas Ashanti and Amerie led the contenders with three nominations each, while Timberlake was among four acts to earn two apiece, the others being singers Musiq and Nelly, British soul duo Floetry and urban boy band B2K. Justin Timberlake On Tourmate Christina: 'She's Bad'

At the American Music Awards two weeks ago, Justin Timberlake was pretty secretive about his upcoming concert plans. But now that touring partner Christina Aguilera has spilled the beans, Timberlake feels justified to start yapping about the summer extravaganza. “It was an idea that both of our managers concocted,” he said. “When it came to me I said, ‘It sounds really interesting. It would be fun to be on tour with somebody who’s that talented’ “. Although some folks have raised an eyebrow at the idea of Justin touring with a supposed rival of Britney Spears, Timberlake wants to downplay… Read more »

The Donnas Grow Up but Keep Their Edge

Sticking to nearly the same sound that got them booed during their debut performance as kids at a Palo Alto middle school, The Donnas have paved a nine-year path from obscurity to success. “We were just dorks in high school with weird clothes,” Head Donna and lead vocalist Brett Anderson deadpans between bites of breakfast at Mel’s Diner during a tour stop in San Francisco. Now, the female foursome’s powerful punk and tales of romantic angst are the stuff of hot-selling CDs and live performances on MTV. Anderson, bassist Maya Ford, whiz guitarist Allison Robertson and frenetic drummer Torry Castellano… Read more »

Music Execs Expect EMI Deal in '03

Could 2003 be the year that EMI finally finds a mate? Frenzied gossip among executives at this year’s Midem music industry conference on the French Riviera would suggest so. As a new group of suitors eyes the EMI dowry, which includes the Beatles back catalog, bets among the glitterati at Cannes are that the world’s third biggest music company will pair up with one of its old flames: BMG or Warner Music. Yet some still hold out hope for a more dramatic swoop by private equity houses led by an industry guru – cash-rich Clive Calder being one contender after… Read more »

Timberlake, Aguilera Will Team Up For Summer Tour

Justin Timberlake is reuniting with his “Mickey Mouse Club” co-star. No, not Britney Spears – Christina Aguilera. At Monday’s American Music Awards, Timberlake said his summer tour would be a co-headlining affair, but he stopped himself from divulging more. “I will not reveal the name and start some rumors,” he said mysteriously. Fortunately, Aguilera was just steps behind him on the red carpet and let the cat out of the bag. “Oh my God! I’m so excited,” Aguilera said. “Me and Justin are going to go out, and it’s going to be such an amazing thing. There’s talk of us… Read more »

American Hi-Fi Master Art Of Losing, Art Of Partying

After scoring a hit in 2000 with their first single, “Flavor of the Weak,” American Hi-Fi were showered with praise and press. The experience of playing stadiums and landing mainstream radio play influenced frontman Stacy Jones to write the title track of the band’s new album, The Art of Losing. “We started out playing these sh-ty little clubs all over the country, and it was f-ing great,” explained Jones. “Then when ‘Flavor of the Weak’ started getting played, we found ourselves on these bills where we were playing between Dream and the ‘Moulin Rouge’ chicks. I just remember looking at… Read more »

Photographer/ Video Director Herb Ritts Dies At Age 50

Celebrity photographer Herb Ritts, who directed videos for Madonna, ‘NSYNC, Britney Spears and others, died Thursday morning of complications from pneumonia. He was 50. In March, Ritts worked with Shakira on the video for “Underneath Your Clothes,” and last year he was responsible for the desolate apartment visuals in ‘NSYNC’s heartbroken “Gone,” the saucy bounce of Jennifer Lopez’s “Ain’t It Funny” and the sandy, sexy beach scenery in Britney’s “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know.” Two of Ritts’ other well-known videos similarly boasted a skillful blend of sand and sex appeal – Madonna’s “Cherish” and Chris Isaak’s breakthrough… Read more »
