Incubus kicks off its largest tour to date at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon on Thursday (April 11). You won’t have NetRadio to click around anymore… not that it’s a surprise; the Minneapolis-based Internet radio pioneer announced Oct. 17 that it would halt operations and fire most of its employees. But this week, NetRadio notified the Securities and Exchange Commission that its shareholders had overwhelmingly voted to liquidate its assets and dissolve the corporation. The vote, recorded April 2, shows 1,172,314 shares voting to liquidate, with only 3,440 shares voting against the plan. Another 442 share votes abstained. Footwear company Vans Inc. is making one more giant leap into the music business, teaming up with Pennywise punk rocker Jim Lindberg to form Vans Records, a label that will mine the lucrative skateboard, snowboard and surf culture. Music CDs equipped with copy protection will, if Rick Boucher gets his wish, soon be as obsolete as eight-track cassettes. The feisty Democratic congressman from Virginia says he plans to introduce legislation banning, or at least regulating, compact discs outfitted with anti-copying technology. Michael Jackson’s Neverland Entertainment has invested $15 million-$20 million in Mark Damon’s production and distribution company MDP Worldwide, making Jackson and his new producing partner Raju Patel major shareholders in the company. As part of the deal, MDP will operate a new division, Neverland Pictures, headed by Jackson and Patel along with key executive Lawrence Mortoff. The company plans to produce a range of projects with a focus on family films and reimaginations of classics, some of which might be directed by and/or star Jackson. U2 is giving way in a battle to save its Dublin recording studios from being pulled to the ground. After submitting written objections Tuesday to the redevelopment of their Hanover Quay site, the band said it would join in talks with the Dublin Docklands Development Authority. “Although they are very happy in their present studio, and would very much like to stay, they appreciate that change is inevitable and often for the best,” the band members said through a statement. Pressplay today announced a music content licensing agreement with TVT Records, the largest freestanding independent record label in the U.S., which will add TVT’s music to pressplay’s growing library.
