Eminem Dresses Up Like Bin Laden For 'Without Me' Video

Eminem dresses up like Osama bin Laden and spoofs “The Sally Jesse Raphael Show” in the video for his new single, “Without Me.” Slim Shady shot the clip for the first single from The Eminem Show in Los Angeles last weekend with director Joseph Kahn (Britney Spears, DMX), according to his Interscope Records spokesperson. Dr. Dre, D12 and Obie Trice, a new Shady Records artist, appear in the video. “Without Me,” which is scheduled to debut at radio outlets later this month, was described by a spokesperson as reminiscent of the lead singles from The Slim Shady LP (“My Name… Read more »

Korn's Fieldy To Stick With His Hip-Hop Dream

Fieldy’s Dreams was hardly a home run when the project debuted early this year, but the Korn bassist is not about to hang up his hip-hop hat. At Saturday’s ESPN Action Sports and Music Awards, where he performed in an all-star rap-rock band with Jay-Z and others, Fieldy said he planned to start work on his second solo album sometime this year. “[Korn is time-consuming], yeah, but we have a lot of downtime,” Fieldy said before the show. “So there will probably be some more stuff from me.” Fieldy, a self-described Rock N Roll Gangster, has been staying up in… Read more »

Andrew W.K., George Lucas Visit Third Eye Blind In Studio

Third Eye Blind are making headway on their third album and eyeing a summer release, despite being interrupted in the studio by a few high-profile guests. In-your-face party starter Andrew W.K. showed up and added backing vocals to the song “F-ked up Kid,” while Kimya Dawson of lo-fi indie band the Moldy Peaches donated her voice to “Self Righteous.” The most famous visitor to stop by the San Francisco studio, however, did not collaborate. He does own the place, though. While at Skywalker Sound, Third Eye Blind presented “Star Wars” director George Lucas with a plaque commemorating the 6 million… Read more »

Ozzfest Invites Andrew W.K. To Replace Rage-Cornell Band

Hyperactive headbanger Andrew W.K. has been invited by Ozzfest organizers to fill the slot vacated by the unnamed group featuring Chris Cornell and members of Rage Against the Machine. An offer was extended to the party proponent a few days ago, and although he has yet to RSVP while his camp works out the logistics of the trek, Andrew W.K. is enthusiastic about the possibility, his manager said. The Rage-Cornell project was forced to resign its main-stage position on Ozzfest ’02 four days after organizers announced the band’s inclusion on the bill, following Cornell’s announcement that he was “no longer… Read more »

Composer Addresses Eminem Suit

“I only heard it quite recently,” says French composer Jacques Loussier. “In fact, my son had heard it and told me that was my music played on this record, so that is why I’ve been listening to it. And, of course, it’s so obvious that it was a copy of my music.” Loussier is speaking of Eminem’s “Kill You,” a track from the rapper’s 8 million-copy selling The Marshall Mathers LP that Loussier claims contains music lifted from his own composition, “Pulsion.” Loussier filed suit against the rapper and Interscope Records last week in federal court in New York City,… Read more »

Dr. Dre's Final Album Will Be Hip-Hop Musical

Detox is no place for chronic, so expect something different from Dr. Dre on his third and final album. “I’m not talking about lowriders and blunts and all that anymore,” Dre said at his studio recently. “I mean, that’s played. As a matter of fact, I’m tired of hearing other people talk about it, to tell you the truth.” So what is the hip-hop pioneer going to talk about? “I had to come up with something different but still keep it hardcore, so what I decided to do was make my album one story about one person and just do… Read more »

Andrew W.K. Parties Hard And Gets Wet

Who the hell is Andrew W.K.? He’s a classically trained pianist from small-town Michigan turned death metalhead who discovered confectionery pop and hair metal and decided to throw together a bunch of songs that combined all of his musical interests into one single, energetic project. Oh, and he likes to party – a lot. Just about every song on his debut album, I Get Wet, features the word “party,” including “It’s Time to Party,” “Party ‘Til You Puke” and the first single, “Party Hard.” The latter explosively sums up the simple Spinal Tap edict as eloquently uttered by keyboardist Vivian… Read more »

Lachey wrote: “Hey Everybody, I just want to apologize to you all. I didn’t know that we had broken up until I heard it on the radio. If you can’t tell, I’m joking. WE HAVE NOT BROKEN UP. I hope that will clear things up. We are however taking a… Read more »

Britney Addresses Her Critics In 'Overprotected' Video

Britney Spears will do as she pleases no matter who’s watching. Even the protective gaze of a burly bodyguard or a sudden downpour isn’t enough to stand between her and a night of fun. That’s the gist of Spears’ new video, for a remix of “Overprotected,” which was shot last weekend in Los Angeles, according to its director Chris Applebaum (American Hi-Fi, Willa Ford). The clip furthers her “I’m Not a Girl” crusade to shirk her adolescent image, as she and five friends outsmart her bodyguard with the old “you’re wanted elsewhere” trick and sneak out of a hotel and… Read more »
