Weezer Delays Album Reissue And DVD

Weezer has delayed the special edition reissue of its self-titled 1994 debut album, according to the band’s official web site. A DVD of the band’s history has also been pushed back. Both items were originally due out by the end of this year, but will now probably surface in 2004, due to what a posting on the site called “overall schedule planning at the record label.” The new edition of Weezer is expected to emerge as a double-disc set, featuring an elaborate booklet, lyrics, liner notes, B-sides, rarities, and some previously unheard material. The DVD, titled Video Capture Device, will… Read more »

Weezer, Saves The Day Trade Blows In 'Emo Puppet Video War'

Biggie and Tupac, Jay-Z and Nas, Axl and Kurt, Oasis and the bulk of humanity… some musical beefs are sublime, and some are ridiculous. The latest, between Weezer and Saves the Day, is a little bit of both. When reports surfaced that Weezer wrangled Jim Henson’s Muppets for their new video, “Keep Fishin’,” last month, the “emo and puppets” premise gave their former opening band a case of déjà vu. Nearly two months ago, Saves the Day – who opened for Weezer in February – wrapped a video for their second single, “Freakish,” featuring (surprise, surprise) a supporting cast of… Read more »

The Strokes Announce Weezer Dates

The Strokes have announced the five dates that they will open for Weezer. The band will open for Rivers Cuomo and crew starting July 15 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Opening all of Weezer’s dates are Dashboard Confessional and Sparta. While already extremely popular in the U.K., the Strokes’ success at home in the U.S. also continues to expand, if at a slower pace. Strokes bassist Nikolai Fraiture said, “We’re not looking to fit in and just the way things have been going now, it’s just getting people excited and into what we’re doing. That’s basically how it’s been from the… Read more »

Weezer Hitting Sheds With Dashboard Confessional, Strokes

When drummer Pat Wilson described Weezer’s latest live show tendencies recently, he separately mentioned Neil Diamond, Spinal Tap, Tool and Phish in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, the band’s summer tour should be interesting. Dates have not been announced, but Wilson and frontman Rivers Cuomo said Weezer will spend six weeks hitting amphitheaters across America with Dashboard Confessional beginning in mid-July. The Stokes will also join the bill on a couple of dates. “It’s gonna be awesome,” Wilson said. “The sound just goes. In an arena, it sounds stupid, but when we hear stuff and it goes out… Read more »

P. Diddy Outpaces Cam'ron, Weezer, Moby To Debut At #1

New releases will comprise half of the top 10 on next week’s Billboard albums chart, with P. Diddy leading the pack of debut entries. Right behind Diddy’s top-slot finish, albums by Cam’ron, Weezer and Moby will bump the former chart champ, Musiq, down to #5. P.Diddy & Bad Boy Records Present… We Invented the Remix will lay claim to the #1 position after selling more than 255,000 copies, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (May 22). Former Weezer Bassist Matt Sharp Sues Band Over Royalties

Matt Sharp, founding bassist for Weezer, has filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates, their ex-manager and a slew of band accountants seeking compensation and credit for songs on Weezer’s first two albums. At the heart of the lawsuit lies a catalog of some of Weezer’s most beloved songs, including their first single, “Undone (The Sweater Song),” as well as most of their album Pinkerton (“Tired of Sex,” “Getchoo,” “No Other One,” “Why Bother?,” “Across the Sea,” “The Good Life,” “El Scorcho,” “Pink Triangle,” “Falling for You”) and a handful of B-sides (“You Gave Your Love to Me Softly,” “I… Read more »

Weezer Shoots 'Dope Nose' Clip

Weezer shot the video for its latest single, “Dope Nose,” at Griffith Park in Los Angeles on Monday (April 8). The video was shot at night and features the band performing wearing bizarre costumes, an unorthodox drum kit, and motorcycles on display. For the clip, the speed of the film was altered-either speeded up or slowed down-to get a sort of Benny Hill effect, according to the band’s website. While a surprise in the video wasn’t revealed, interesting shots include “ridiculous [motorcycle] stunts [performed] at very close proximity to the band.” The clip for “Dope Nose” will hit video music… Read more »

Weezer In New Jersey: They Came, They Played, They Left – Review

Rocking a stadium is no mean trick. Plenty of bands do stadium tours because they’ve got the audience, but the ability to blow the roof off a 5,000-seat venue doesn’t mean you can knock ’em dead in an arena. Some have done it – get your hands on Cheap Trick’s Live at Budokan and hear the decibels erupt – but many have not. Platonically, Weezer is a band fit for arena rock. Their guitars sound huge, their music is full of explosive dynamics and their choruses invite fans to sing along. At their show Monday night at the Continental Airlines… Read more »

Saves The Day Prep For Weezer Tour, Dismiss Detractors

For any young band, the idea of performing before thousands on their first arena tour is a daunting proposal. When the heroically titled Saves the Day were tapped as openers for Weezer’s North American tour, which begins February 5, however, they pushed the butterflies aside and focused instead on rising to the occasion. “Every tour that we go on, we hope to be more comfortable as a live band,” bassist Eben D’Amico said. “Just being able to do our thing onstage that much better. We’re always honing and perfecting what we do.” While the Princeton, New Jersey-rooted quintet may come… Read more »
