Iggy Pop in racist controversy


Britain’s BBC has been forced to apologize after Iggy Pop used a racist term live on air. During the broadcaster’s coverage of the Glastonbury festival (June 23), Pop made a comment about visiting shops in north London. In an interview after his performance, Pop launched into a long anecdote about going to Camden and visiting “Paki shops.” Hosts Jo Whiley and Mark Radcliffe made no on-air apology on Saturday night (June 23), prompting three viewer complaints. White Stripes Finish New Album In Two Weeks


Only two weeks after they started, White Stripes have finished recording their new album and are planning its release date. Jack White planned on finishing up this release fairly quickly in his home studio with Meg White. The pair completed the recording on March 18, after recording a song a day. They still have to mix and master it, according to NME.com. The band recorded their last record, Elephant, in 10 days and White completed Loretta Lynn ‘s Grammy-winning Van Lear Rose in 12 days. Moby Looks Back at "18"


Moby will release 18 B-Sides DVD November 18th. Zwan Cancels World Tour


Zwan has canceled its entire world tour, due to what the band termed “family reasons” on its official website, zwan.com. The canceled tour was to start in Imola, Italy on June 15, and end at the famed Fuji Festival in Japan on January 25. Glastonbury, T In The Park, and the Witnness Festival were among the European festivals Zwan will miss. R.E.M. Begins Rehearsals with New Drummer


R.E.M. is in the midst of preparations for its upcoming world tour, and according to a post by frontman Michael Stipe on the group’s official Web site (http://www.remhq.com), the band has already rehearsed 70 songs. The tour starts June 27 at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival and will wrap Oct. 11 in Atlanta, about 70 miles west of the group’s Athens, Ga., homebase. Coldplay Sets U.S. Club Tour


Coldplay will visit the United States in mid-August to preview songs from its upcoming album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, which arrives August 27 from Capitol Records. The Strokes Headline Reading and Leeds Festivals


Garage-rock band The Strokes, riding high in the music charts on both sides of the Atlantic, are to headline the 2002 Reading and Leeds festivals, organizers announced on Tuesday.
