Radiohead Guitarist Says Leaked Tracks 'Stolen'

As MP3 files purportedly featuring tracks from Radiohead’s upcoming album “Hail to the Thief” continue to circulate online, guitarist Jonny Greenwood took to the band’s official Web site (http://www.radiohead.com) on Wednesday to decry the files as “a stolen copy of early, unmixed edits and roughs.” When the cuts from “Hail to the Thief,” due June 10 from Capitol, leaked last weekend, Greenwood seemed bemused by the situation. “We’re not angry really,” he said at the time. “Shame it’s not a package with the artwork and all, but there you go.” But he now says it has become apparent that these… Read more »

Radiohead's Selway Finishes Marathon

Radiohead drummer Phil Selway survived the London marathon. Britain’s New Music Express reports that Selway finished the race in four and half hours, which is a respectable time. Selway says he would have liked to have finished in four. He performed even better in the fund raising department. Selway’s goal was to raise $6,400 but instead raised over $26,000 in pledges. He promised to raffle off his drum kit to anyone who sponsored him but hasn’t done so yet.

The Oxford-based quintet beat U2, R.E.M., Stereophonics and last year’s winners, Travis, at Q magazine’s music awards. Radiohead has evolved from recording gloomy rock to soaring epics in a career spanning 14 years and five albums. Irish rocker band Ash won the best single award for “Burn Baby Burn,” taken from its No. 1 album “Free All Angels.” Travis, the Glasgow quartet fronted by Fran Healey, picked up the best album award for “The Invisible Band,” which features hits including “Sing” and “Side.”… Read more »

Radiohead Lend Song To Olympics, Visit 'South Park'

While Radiohead’s latest album, Amnesiac, is destined for RIAA certification after selling more than 232,000 copies its first week, the Oxford-based quintet is also going for the gold with the song “I Might Be Wrong.” The International Olympic Committee will use the track in upcoming TV spots for the Winter Games taking place in Salt Lake City in February, according to drummer Phil Selway. The spots will feature narration over segments depicting snowboarders, skiers, ice skaters and other winter athletes in action. If marrying the geeky genius of Radiohead to sports seems odd, well, it is. “It’s a bit of… Read more »

Radiohead: Meeting People Finally Is Easy

On their first U.S. jaunt in three years, Radiohead have overcome their fears of touring the States by coming to terms with their popularity and acclaim. With last year’s Kid A and the recently released Amnesiac debuting at #1 and #2, respectively, and selling more than a million copies combined, according to SoundScan… well, to quote the title of the film documenting the band’s grueling tour supporting their third album, 1997’s OK Computer, meeting people really is easy. “I really didn’t think I could deal with it at all,” frontman Thom Yorke said after the band’s performance at the Red… Read more »

Following seven previously announced shows between June 18 in Spring, Texas, and June 30 in Santa Barbara, California, the British prog-rockers will kick off a second leg of the tour July 30 in Atlanta. They’ll wrap things up August 20 at the Hollywood Bowl. Amnesiac, the band’s fifth full-length, sticks close to the ethereal, electronics-heavy sound of 2000’s Kid A – it was recorded during the same sessions – but throws in a few… Read more »

Radiohead Plans Extensive Amnesiac Tours

The release of Amnesiac on June 5 will bring to a conclusion Radiohead’s three-year saga of what to do after OK Computer. And after going in markedly different directions with Amnesiac and last fall’s Kid A, bassist Colin Greenwood says he expects the group to drift back toward something resembling a standard operating procedure. “We’ve talked about doing a guitar album next,” Greenwood reports. “The reason we did these two records is to show that anything is possible rather than everything is expected; the last thing we wanted to do was go into the studio and make another version of… Read more »
