Butch Vig Says Garbage Hiatus Is Over; Jimmy Eat World Nearly Done With LP

Last we heard from Garbage, in the fall of 2005, the group was going on an indefinite hiatus. Fortunately for fans, that break is not turning out like, say, Blink-182’s “hiatus.” “We’re recording a couple new songs at the end of February,” drummer Butch Vig revealed recently. “I think everyone’s excited about getting back in a room and playing some music together.” The new tunes will be included on a Garbage greatest-hits album the band is putting together for release later in the year. “We’ve been working on it for a while,” Vig said. “There was originally talk about doing… Read more »

Phone Shows Apple’s Impact on Consumer Products

SAN FRANCISCO – Apple’s new iPhone appears to be the clearest statement yet of what Steve Jobs’s impact has been on consumer electronics. It is not that he invents new technologies. He refines existing ones. Mr. Jobs himself acknowledged that when asked during an interview on Tuesday whether he thought the iPhone represented a trend toward the convergence of computing and communications. “I don’t want people to think of this as a computer,” he said. “I think of it as reinventing the phone.” If the iPhone succeeds commercially, it will be new proof of Mr. Jobs’s power and influence over… Read more »

The world’s second-largest cell phone maker also introduced seven new wireless telephones that will be available in the second half of the year, including products aimed at helping corporate customers cut costs. Michael Jackson's Bentley to Be Auctioned

A classic Bentley, owned by Michael Jackson and featured in a music video, will be sold at the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction this weekend unless company executives hear from the pop singer himself. Craig Jackson, president of Barrett-Jackson, said that his firm entered into a contract to sell the vehicle in October – prior to the child molestation charges leveled against the singer – but are unsure as to whether the pop icon still wants to sell it. “We just want to do what he wants us to do and we don’t know what that is,” Jackson said. Jackson, who… Read more »

Ex-Treble Charger Bill Priddle: "I Wasn't Happy Going In The Punk-Pop Direction"

Last monthwe told you that guitarist Bill Priddle had been absent from the latest batch of Treble Charger shows, seemingly replaced by Kelly Osbourneguitarist Devin Bronson. At the time, representatives from Treble Charger’s label, BMG, told ChartAttack that Priddle was merely taking a break from his TC duties, wanting to spend time with his young daughter. The temporary break explanation turned out to be nothing but a record label spin job – Priddle has now confirmed that he left Treble Charger permanently in early September. Priddle claims that he intended to leave Treble Charger of his own free will once… Read more »

One Of These (Backstreet) Boys Is Doing His Own Thing… With Tommy Lee?

Although the Backstreet Boys won’t be delivering a new album anytime soon, four members of the boy band are preparing solo LPs – making four of the five Boys their own man. “It’s important to point out that the group has not disbanded,” said Brian Littrell’s attorney, Jordan Keller. “They certainly intend to record as a group in the future, they just don’t know when”. Joey Fatone Going After Creed On Comedy Album

Scott Stapp and humor hardly go hand in hand, but Joey Fatone is doing his best to change that. The ‘NSYNC singer is parodying Creed’s “Higher” on his upcoming comedy album. “I want to do ‘Can You Change My Tire?’ ” Fatone said Monday. “Just silly stuff, something stupid like that.” Creed are Fatone’s first victims outside of his own ‘NSYNC circle. He’s working on JC Chasez’s “Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love)” and has already tackled Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River.” “I’m doing ‘Buy Me a Liver,’ about drinking too much alcohol,” he said. The as-yet-untitled album, which… Read more »

In a pop-punk field increasingly populated with interchangeable sound-alike bands, Good Charlotte has made a bid to break away from the pack with its second CD, “The Young & the Hopeless.” Lead singer Joel Madden, who along with twin brother Benj writes the group’s songs, credits Eric Valentine, the producer of “The Young & the Hopeless,” with helping to expand the group’s musical horizons. “He challenged me to write different songs than just a bunch of songs that were kind of the same thing,” Joel Madden said. “He was like, ‘Why don’t you try writing some songs that you wouldn’t… Read more »
