After 11 years of planning, backers of a National Music Center and Museum pledged Thursday to open the facility in the nation’s capital five years from now. “We will be having our grand opening in 2008,” said singer Nancy Sinatra. She has been working to build support for the project since her father, Frank Sinatra, died in 1998. George Michael apparently took the line “imagine no possessions” to heart – at least when it came to the white piano used by John Lennon to write his 1970 hit “Imagine.” The British pop star reportedly returned the instrument to a Liverpool museum after buying it for $2 million last year. Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a not-for-profit educational facility, and United Stations Radio Networks, an independent leader in the network radio programming business, today announced that they had joined forces to create nationally distributed radio programs. The partnership calls for the development of at least one regularly scheduled radio project to commence later this year, and within that agreement, United Stations has been granted the right to act as “The Official Radio Network” for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Pop kingpin Billy Joel is working on two new projects, and he doesn’t have to sing a note or plink a piano key for either one. The first is a classical piano album of new songs, which is being arranged by established concert pianist Hyung-ki Joo. On June 25, Joel will travel to Vienna, Austria, to supervise the project, which he hopes to have available for release by the fall.
