Former Beatle Has Surgery For Cancer


Former Beatle George Harrison has undergone lung cancer surgery in the United States, the singer’s lawyers said. Harrison, 58, had surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to remove a cancerous growth from one of his lungs, according to the lawyers. The lawyers did not say when the surgery occurred. Aimster Files Suit Against RIAA


In a move to head off any possible legal action taken against it by the RIAA, Albany, N.Y. based Aimster has filed suit in U.S. District Court against the trade group it says wants to do to it what its done to Napster. Aimster, a technology that users can attach to AOL’s instant messenger, allows users to share music files only with the individuals on that person’s “buddy list,” and has attracted about 4.2 million users. The American Civil Liberties Union last week criticized proposed legislation that would give the government added regulatory power over the entertainment industry. Green Day dominated the California Music Awards Saturday night (April 28) at the Henry J. Kaiser Arena in Oakland by earning so-called “Bammies” in all eight categories in which the group was nominated; including artist of the year, outstanding group, and outstanding album for Warning. Second Boy Burned In Stunt Imitating MTV Show


An 11-year-old boy suffered second-degree burns on Tuesday afternoon in Hartford while imitating a stunt performed on a popular MTV show, the police said yesterday. It was the second time in less than three months that a child was burned copying the show, on which cast members perform pranks and daredevil acts.
