Review: Lucky Boys Confusion – Throwing The Game (Wea/Electra)

Creatively speaking, rock and roll is in a box: guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. A box. Sure, artists have introduced foreign elements: samples, loops, turntables, theremins, various techno effects. But it’s still a box limited by the traditional tools of the trade. Is this a bad thing? To some it’s the worst thing, like tape over your mouth, like handcuffs. To others, like Lucky Boys Confusion, it’s a challenge. What can you do in this box that hasn’t been done before? Not much, according to those artists who can’t help but step outside of the box (and hooray for them,… Read more »

Aerosmith Line Up North American Tour

Aerosmith, those bad boys of Boston, will embark on an extensive 48-city tour in support of their latest album, Just Push Play, on June 6 in Hartford, Connecticut. Only a portion of the itinerary has been confirmed, with additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks, a label spokesperson said. Fuel, supporting last year’s effort Something Like Human, have been tapped to open the shows. Aerosmith – singer Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford – released their 13th studio album in early March. The LP debuted at #2 on the… Read more »

Good Charlotte Off To A Good Start

Despite it being the basis of their latest single, Good Charlotte don’t need much motivation these days. Twin brothers Joel and Benji, whose “The Motivation Proclamation” is getting increasing spins at radio and video outlets, didn’t have to be asked twice to appear as prom entertainment in the upcoming comedy “Teen Movie,” nor did it take much prodding to get them to accept an invitation from the Vans Warped Tour. Lately, Good Charlotte’s drive and enthusiasm rivals even the most ambitious up-and-comers, however that wasn’t always the case. “There was a point, especially before we got signed, when there was… Read more »

R.E.M. Seek To Reveal 'Beauty Of Music'

Guitar jangle, electronic effects and strings meet again on rock band’s 12th album. Edging as close to the conventional pop realm as they have in their 20-plus years, R.E.M. will release Reveal, an evocative tapestry of reflective, expertly crafted songs, in May. “We’re really interested in finding the beauty of music these days,” said bassist Mike Mills, who clarified that the rock band’s 12th studio album isn’t quite as subdued as it may seem. “Taking a song and seeing how you can find something really lovely inside it, I think that might tend to make it sound a little more… Read more »

Aerosmith To Play With Kid Rock At Hall Of Fame Ceremony

When Kid Rock inducts never-say-die rockers Aerosmith into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, “Sweet Emotion” will be doubly apt in describing the scenario. Not only are Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer elated to be receiving such an honor, the group will perform its 1975 single with the rap-rocker at the induction ceremony, Perry, a self-confessed Rock-head, said Friday (March 16). As for Tyler’s take on being inducted, the singer modestly said, “Not bad for a bunch of guys that got kicked out of clubs for playing their own songs, right?”… Read more »
