Behind The Scenes w/ Fall Out Boy

The quartet’s comfort in La-La Land has nothing to do with the Hollywood parties they’ve been frequenting and everything to do with the vibe of their long-awaited new album, ‘Infinity on High.’ Though ‘Infinity’ was born in the San Fernando Valley suburb just a few exits from Hollywood off the 101 freeway (“We’re a Burbank type of band,” bassist Pete Wentz says), the unique characteristic of Tinseltown was an unavoidable subject matter for the new album. “This is one of the best places to observe people,” he says. “And the interesting part about it is that Hollywood’s not actually, like,… Read more »

Britney's New Year's Nap

Not every A-lister rang in the New Year in style. Britney Spears’ evening, for one, was quite the snoozefest. At least, that’s the official no-partying party line. The singer’s recently rehired rep, Larry Rudolph, is lashing out at reports that the star passed out–and had to be carried out–while hosting a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas, claiming instead that the mother of two was just catching some zzz’s. “By about one o’clock she was just done, so we took her out,” Rudolph told the Associated Press. “She was not drunk. She was just tired and falling asleep.” The… Read more »

Underoath Drummer Steps Up As Frontman For Side Project The Almost

While Floridian metalcore sextet Underoath were recording 2006’s Define the Great Line a little more than a year ago, the band’s drummer, Aaron Gillespie, found himself writing straight-up rock tunes, material that he realized wouldn’t fit with Underoath’s vicious style. If these songs were to be heard someday, he knew he’d have to release them himself. So before Define ’s June release, Gillespie hit the studio alone to track the songs, playing all of the instruments himself and even tackling vocalist duties, like how Trent Reznor records Nine Inch Nails albums. This spring, Gillespie’s as-yet-untitled solo debut, which he’ll release… Read more »

N.E.R.D. Break Up, Or Rather, Neptunes Leave Shay Behind

The acronym No One Ever Really Dies will be tested for pop group N.E.R.D., whose lead singer, Pharrell Williams, has announced that the band are no more. “N.E.R.D. is dead. I don’t agree with the management at Virgin Records so we’re done,” Williams recently told BBC Radio 1. As for The Neptunes production duo of Williams and Chad Hugo, they’re not going anywhere. The uber-popular producers are definitely still together – they just won’t be doing much singing anymore. “Me and Chad still do what we do in the studio, Shay is still our best friend, you know, perhaps we’ll… Read more »

Sum 41 To Record Mash-Up Album With Ludacris?

Sum 41 drummer Steve Jocz’s mind is racing. He’s just learned that his band will serve as an opening act on Mötley Crüe’s summer-long Carnival of Sin Tour, and as such, he’s trying really hard to think up ways he can match Crüe drummer Tommy Lee’s nearly patented drum-solo heroics (including, but not limited to, being raised in the air and pulling full 360s while bashing the kit). “Man, I don’t know,” he laughed. “I might get my drum tech to push my drum kit forward and then pull it back really fast. Or maybe we’ll put it on wheels… Read more »
