Paul Simon Signin' Music Publishing Deal


Paul Simon has signed a worldwide agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) that covers his catalog and future work. The multi-year deal, which went into effect Jan. 1, calls for UMPG to administer his catalog and new songs worldwide except in North America, where the material will continue to be handled by Paul Simon Music. Buddy Miles Sues Hendrix Estate, L.A. Labels


Drummer Buddy Miles is suing the estate of Jimi Hendrix and several record labels for millions of dollars, alleging he was not paid royalties for his collaborations with the guitarist more than 30 years ago. The drummer in Hendrix’s short-lived Band of Gypsys, Miles, 56, said in the suit filed on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, that he received virtually no money for his work. Kelly Osbourne Signs with Sanctuary


Kelly Osbourne has signed a multi-album recording contract with Sanctuary Records Group. The label will on Sept. 30 re-release her 2002 Epic debut “Shut Up” under the name “Changes,” featuring a duet with her father, Ozzy Osbourne, on the title track. The repackaged album will also contain four bonus live cuts. Scott Weiland Gets Probation; Velvet Revolver Scrap EP


Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland dodged a bullet on Thursday when a judge sentenced him to three years of probation for his May drug arrest. Weiland appeared in a Pasadena, California, courtroom on two felony possession charges and was sentenced to probation, which includes court-monitored individual and group counseling sessions, mandatory Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and random drug testing, according to a spokesperson for the Pasadena district attorney’s office. Drexel Starts Student-Run Record Label


Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. have nothing to worry about, but a university known more for churning out engineers than hit music is starting its own record label. Drexel University’s MAD Dragon Records expects to put out its first CD – a compilation of eight or nine bands – next year. The members of the band Trapt say they aren’t about image. Only one tiny picture of the band is on their recent CD “Trapt,” and it’s still difficult to tell them apart.
