Nelly, Britney, Usher, Papa Roach Take A Beating Onstage

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, timber cutters, miners, construction workers and truck drivers face the highest risk of injury on the job. Perhaps the Labor Department would add “musical performer” to that list if it bothered to assign someone to study the goings-on at say, Ozzfest or the Anger Management Tour – or even Britney Spears’ Dream Within a Dream Tour – to take note of the amount of blood spilled and number of fingers/arms/knees/backs injured onstage. While many imagine that a music superstar’s day on the job involves such trappings as free-flowing Cristal, gold grills, hovering hotties… Read more »

Kid Rock, Run-D.M.C. Back In The Saddle With Aerosmith

When Aerosmith tell you which way to walk this summer, they’ll be pointing at Kid Rock and Run-D.M.C., who’ll join the veteran rockers on select tour dates across the country. The collaboration is a reunion of sorts for the three acts, who played a medley of “Walk This Way,” “Rock Box” and “King of Rock” at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. The first date of the tour is August 13 in Holmdel, New Jersey, at the PNC Bank Arts Center, and additional shows have been announced for August 22 and 24 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, at the Tweeter Center and… Read more »

Members Of Godsmack, Screaming Trees Remember Layne Staley

While Alice in Chains – whose singer, Layne Staley, was found dead Friday – influenced an incalculable number of bands, perhaps no one echoes their legacy like Godsmack. From Tony Rambola’s jarring bursts of guitar to Sully Erna’s angry, impassioned vocal delivery, Godsmack have sonically followed Alice in Chains’ lead while adding their own distinctive edge. To Erna, Staley was more than just part of the grunge foundation on which bands like Godsmack, Creed, Tantric and Puddle of Mudd built their sound. The Alice in Chains singer’s raw urgency vaulted the former drummer front and center before one of today’s… Read more »

MTV Makes Aerosmith an Icon

Sure, there are Grammys and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There are MTV’s Video Music Awards and platinum albums, too. But Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler said the ultimate accolade comes when well-known artists cover the songs that made his band a household name. “We’ve had people cover our stuff for years. You can go into a lot of bars and hear it. That’s an honor in itself. But then when you hear Kid Rock or Run-DMC or somebody else perform your songs, it brings it to a whole new level,” Tyler told The Associated Press. Now… Read more »

Aerosmith Head To Hawaii To Record New Tunes

Many bands take lengthy vacations after a worldwide tour. Others head right back into the studio to get crackin’ on their next album. Aerosmith are combining the best of both worlds. Following their Japanese tour last month, the group flew to Maui, Hawaii, for three weeks with Just Push Play producer and songwriter Marti Frederiksen to scuba dive, catch some rays and begin working on new tunes. “We’d like to put some new music out by this spring,” Joe Perry said on the band’s official fan club Web site. “So we felt we would take the momentum of playing, of… Read more »

Britney Plays Dress-Up In Super Bowl Ads

If you’ve always thought Britney Spears was ahead of her time, here’s your chance to take a backwards glance at the pop princess as she would have appeared at the height of the doo-wop explosion, the ’60s beach-blanket blitz and the psychedelic Flower Power era. Britney Spears will reprise her role as Pepsi pitchwoman in commercial breaks during Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to a spokesperson for the soft-drink company. Spears will perform her renditions of Pepsi jingles past and present in “Now and Then,” a 90-second spot that revisits the company’s ad themes of the past five decades, including the… Read more »

More than 25 artists – from boys (of the Backstreet, ‘NSYNC and O-Town variety) to men (elder statesmen such as Aerosmith, James Brown and Rod Stewart), from vocal queens (Destiny’s Child, Mariah Carey, Carole King) to the King of Pop – took the stage Sunday at RFK Stadium for the all-day United We Stand – What More Can I Give benefit concert for victims of September’s terrorist attacks. Themes of unity and perseverance permeated every performance, with artists often thanking the sold-out crowd for the message they were sending to the rest of the country – that no matter the… Read more »
