Webcasters Win In Washington


As the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) prepares to convene to determine the compulsory licensing fees for online music, federal regulators have handed online-only webcasters a win, allowing several services to stay in negotiations with the record companies, despite lawsuits against them. At issue is whether webcasters that utilize interactivity features that allow users to customize their listening experience should be eligible for compulsory licensing like traditional radio, or whether they should have to negotiate individual, and potentially more expensive, fees with the record labels. Mr. Barry Goes To Washington


Napster interim CEO Hank Barry calls upon Congress to enact compulsory license laws that include direct payment to artists. Testifying before U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Napster’s chief executive officer said that an act of Congress is required to remedy the issues facing Internet music. Barry called on Congress to enact a compulsory license analogous to laws already in place for radio, for the delivery of music over the Internet. He urged that any such license should include language that enables direct payment to artists similar to the “writer’s share” of public performance payments that are collected by ASCAP and BMI.… Read more »

August Burns Red and Our Last Night teamed up to deliver a heavy-rock cover of twenty one pilots‘ “Heathens.” The OG track from the pop-rock duo came out in 2016 for the Suicide Squad soundtrack and is their second most-streamed song on Spotify behind breakout single, “Stressed Out.” Check out the heavy cover below. Inhaler Announces North America 2025 Tour Dates


Dublin indie-rock quartet Inhaler announced in early November that they were heading out on their Open Wide UK World Tour. On November 18, they specifically dropped dates for their North American run. The dates kick off on February 28 in Toronto and wrap up on March 19 at Dallas’ House Of Blues. Counterparts Announce Winter Headline Tour


Canadian metalcore outfit Counterparts has announced a headline tour taking place next winter. The Heaven Let Them Die North American Tour will feature support from Pain Of Truth, Malevolence, and Foreign Hands. Papa Roach just announced their forthcoming 2025 Rise Of The Roach tour, which celebrates 25 years of Infest. The tour will also feature support from Rise Against and Underoath.
