Warner Bros. Records Celebrates Two Debuts from R.E.M. in the Top 20


R.E.M. made unique chart history today with “In Time: The Best Of R.E.M. 1988-2003” debuting at #8 and #16 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, the first time the same album debuts twice in the Top 20 in the same week. Released on October 28th, “In Time” is for sale as both a single compact disc and double CD featuring the same initial piece and a second disc with rarities and b-sides compiled by the band. The video for R.E.M.’s new song “Bad Day” will premiere Friday at 7 p.m. ET on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” show. In the Tim Hope-directed clip, group members Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills appear as newscasters. R.E.M. beings its six-week North American tour on Friday (August 29) at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver-where the trio has been working on its next studio album. The new tour is not supporting a particular album, since the group’s next release, In Time: The Best Of R.E.M., 1988-2003, doesn’t come out until October 28. R.E.M. Revamps Tour Plans, Takes Requests


Veteran modern rock act R.E.M. has made a few changes in its fall North American tour. The group, which kicked off its first world tour in four years June 21 in Utrecht, Holland, has added two dates and altered city and/or venue details for a handful of others on the North American leg of the outing, which will now get underway Aug. 29 in Vancouver. R.E.M. have set an October 28th release date for their second compilation, In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003. R.E.M. Places Rehearsal Footage Online


R.E.M. has posted video footage of the band rehearsing for their current world tour on their official website, remhq.com. The video was recently shot at the band’s studios in Vancouver, British Columbia. Those who visit remhq.com will be able to see R.E.M. perform four songs, including “She Just Wants To Be,” “Walk Unafraid,” “Get Up,” and “Maps And Legends”-which dates back to the band’s third album, 1985’s Fables And Reconstruction. R.E.M. Begins Rehearsals with New Drummer


R.E.M. is in the midst of preparations for its upcoming world tour, and according to a post by frontman Michael Stipe on the group’s official Web site (http://www.remhq.com), the band has already rehearsed 70 songs. The tour starts June 27 at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival and will wrap Oct. 11 in Atlanta, about 70 miles west of the group’s Athens, Ga., homebase.
