Sick Ozzy Misses Ozzfest… Again

It’s turning into a long, hot summer for Ozzy Osbourne. The metal god called in sick again Tuesday night and missed his third Ozzfest show. Osbourne skipped Tuesday night’s stop at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, with an undisclosed illness, according to a tour spokesperson. He is expected to be back on his feet in time for Friday’s show at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia. Ozzy sat out a July 9 show in Sacramento after struggling through the previous night’s set in San Francisco with what doctors described as severe laryngitis. He was still suffering… Read more »

Ozzy Croons And Moons, Manson Rocks With Private Parts, Killswitch Kill At Ozzfest Stop – Review

Ozzy crooned, mooned and squirted his water guns, Disturbed bellowed, and Marilyn Manson vamped it up, but Ozzfest has always been just as much about the lesser-known acts, and Sunday’s show was no exception. Though bands like Kilgore, Pushmonkey and the perhaps aptly named No One have proven that Ozzfest exposure alone won’t make you famous, second-stage alumni System of a Down and Slipknot can attest that it certainly doesn’t hurt. Killswitch Engage’s potential spot in the Slipknot category seemed all but assured even before they appeared at Dallas’ Smirnoff Music Centre. Even though it was only the second show… Read more »

Disturbed Demand Liberation, Frontman Urges Ozzfest Newbies To Shine

Disturbed may have learned something from their previous missteps. After their first two clips from Believewere fraught with adversity and caused controversy, the band took a rather clear-cut approach when conceptualizing the video for “Liberate.” Directed by Nathan “Karma” Cox (Linkin Park, Chevelle) and Hank Lena, the video merges backstage and on-the-road clips shot during Disturbed’s Music as a Weapon 2 Tour with performance footage taken from the trek’s finale, in the band’s hometown of Chicago. While it’s a pretty common concept as far as video treatments go, like most of the band’s themes, it’s anything but ordinary. “It’s encouraging… Read more »

Ozzfest Bands To Divide And Conquer On Off Days

Ozzy may not like to play more than two shows in a row anymore, but too much rest leaves some of his Ozzfest touring partners restless. “There’s a lot of dead time on the road, and there are a lot of off days,” said Disturbed frontman David Draiman, whose band will play seven non-Ozzfest shows. “We start going nuts when we can’t play for a while. If we’re in touring mode, and we have the bus and the hotel and our instruments there, we want to play. We love getting in front of crowds rather than sitting around trying to… Read more »

Newsted Energized for Ozzfest Double Duty

Double duty wasn’t necessarily what new Voivod member (and recently announced Ozzy Osbourne bassist) Jason Newsted had in mind when he left Metallica over two years ago, but that’s exactly what he’ll be doing this summer as Voivod and Ozzy play Ozzfest 2003. Despite the need for two sets of everything (clothes, amps, etc.), Newsted tells Billboard.com that he’s up for the challenge. “I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he says. “I know it is going to be a lot of work, but it is something that you can’t let pass you by. Now, I have one foot into the… Read more »

Osbournes in Feisty Mood for Ozzfest Unveiling

Headbangers of the world will unite once again this summer at Ozzfest, the annual road show of hard rock bands organized by America’s first couple of reality TV, the Osbournes. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and son Jack opened their Beverly Hills house to journalists on Tuesday to announce the lineup for the eighth annual outing of Ozzfest. Dressed in his best pair of tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt, a typically befuddled Ozzy slurred his way through the news conference while a svelte Sharon, as usual, took charge of proceedings, firing off insults at her guests and husband. Ozzy Osbourne,… Read more »

Motley Crue Bassist Says No OzzFest In 2003

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx says no one should line up for 2003 concert tickets just yet. In response to a number of inquiries about whether or not the Crue has any live plans for this year-including joining up with Ozzy Osbourne’s annual multi-act tour-Sixx writes on the official motley.com site, “As far as the question being asked over and over about OzzFest, at this time there are NO plans of doing any kind of tour until next year for Motley Crue.” While Motley Crue lays low, Sixx is hard at work with his new band, the Brides Of Destruction.… Read more »

The Used Want To Add Ozzfest To Already Packed Itinerary

The taste of ink is sweet these days for the Used, who have signed on for next year’s Vans Warped Tour and will likely ink an agreement soon with another major summer outing. “Ozzfest too, I think. We are crossing our fingers,” joked singer Bert McCracken, who, as Kelly Osbourne’s boyfriend, has a pretty decent foot in the door. McCracken said the Used will tour through October, beginning in January, headlining a West Coast trek with Taking Back Sunday, New Transit Direction and the Blood Brothers. An East Coast stint will follow in February with Finch, the Movielife and My… Read more »
