On January 22, Bowling For Soup shared a bittersweet message on social media platforms. Guitarist extraordinaire Chris Burney, 55, is permanently retiring from the band. The artist originally helped co-found the band in the ’90s. The punk-rock ensemble stated, “It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994. Some recent medical developments, 30 years of rocking balls, and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue. On a random January Wednesday night, the Arizona five-piece dropped dyed (2008-2023), a compilation album of reimagined demos. Each track honors the band’s nine album eras. Vocalist John O’Callaghan noted, “Revisiting the past can stir up all sorts of feelings. Nostalgia, fondness, gratitude, and on and on and on. Recent Pure Noise Records signees Ben Quad are gearing up to release their 5-track EP Ephemera on October 25. On October 7, the band revealed the title track of their forthcoming record, which was preceded by “You’ll Get Nothing And Like It” and “Your Face As An Effigy.” The band shares that “Ephemera” is the “the boiling point of the record.
