System Of A Down To Release Limited-Edition 'Steal This Album'

System Of A Down’s Steal This Album will be offered with the most bare bones of packaging. The November 26 release will have “Steal This Album” scrawled across the face of the CD and that’s it. However, there will be a limited-edition run of CDs that will come with some artwork. Guitarist Daron Malakian, vocalist Serj Tankian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan each created separate artwork. Each member will have 50,000 copies pressed of their version of Steal This Album. All four will be housed in a clear jewel case with no booklet. Tankian’s artwork is a “series… Read more »

System Of A Down Step Up To The Plate At Vegas Opener – Review

The last time System of a Down hit Las Vegas, it was on the Pledge of Allegiance Tour with Slipknot. System held their own on that outing, but now, back in Sin City as the headliner at a more intimate setting – the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s Joint – System had a lot more to prove. By the time the L.A. foursome of Armenian-American rockers strolled casually onto the stark stage, the crowd was already geared up for SOAD’s harsh and heavy sounds. Then the thunder hit. The opening riffs hammered across the venue – no introduction was needed… Read more »

System Of A Down Join Ozzy As Ozzfest Headliners

After finding their first bit of cross-country exposure on the second stage of Ozzfest in the summer of 1998, System of a Down have officially graduated. The progressive metal outfit has been tapped to co-headline this year’s edition of the rambling rockfest. While dates and additional acts for the festival have yet to be lined up, System announced that they will hit the stage just prior to the tour’s namesake, Ozzy Osbourne, when the trek kicks off in July. Spokespeople for Ozzfest were unavailable for comment. After its coming-out party on the Ozzfest second stage in 1998, the band returned… Read more »

System Of A Down Has Big Day Out Barrier Problem

System Of A Down had to stop its set on Friday (January 18) at the Big Day Out festival in Auckland, New Zealand due to problems with the barricades in front of the stage, which collapsed during the band’s performance. Singer Serj Tankian told the crowd that the band had to stop its performance because a fan broke his legs due to crowd crush against the barrier. However, NME reported that no one was hurt in the incident. System Of A Down resumed its set later in the night after a second-stage band, Shihad, played. A statement by the organizers… Read more »

System Of A Down To Swing Through U.S. Between Overseas Tours

They may be critical of the U.S. government, but System of a Down love the people of this nation – so much so that they’re slipping in 12 North American theater dates between tours in Australia and Europe instead of taking a well-deserved month off. The band will start the jaunt with openers Clutch on Valentine’s Day in Las Vegas at the Joint, and then they’ll hit 11 other cities. The tour will conclude in Verdun, Quebec, on March 1. System of a Down will begin their European tour in Coimbra, Portugal, on March 5. That trip will conclude in… Read more »

System Of A Down upstage headliners – Review

Featuring two of the day’s most popular heavy rock acts – the masked Midwest horror-meisters Slipknot and the politically-driven Southland quartet System Of A Down – the nationwide Pledge of Allegiance tour features a couple bands whose recordings and performances are marked by uncompromising intensity. However, their musical styles and their levels of talent, as seen at the near-full Forum, share few resemblances. After a typically explosive set by German fire-tamers Rammstein, as well as opening turns by young groups Mudvayne and No One, System played their first L.A. show in two years and the first since the release earlier… Read more »

System Of A Down Album Tops Revised Chart

A rare revision by music tracking firm SoundScan has catapulted Los Angeles hard rock band System of a Down to No. 1 on the U.S. pop album charts, the group’s publicist said Sunday. The group’s second album, “Toxicity,” had originally debuted at No. 2 with sales of 170,000 units when data for the week ended Sept. 9 were issued Wednesday morning. R&B singer Alicia Keys’ “Songs In A Minor” was No. 1 with 192,000 units. But SoundScan later in the day adjusted the System of a Down data by adding 50,000 units of a limited-edition enhanced CD of “Toxicity,” which… Read more »
