  It’s chinwag time! Jess Bowen is currently on tour with Lights so Jess & Bowie chat about how she prepared for tour, life on the road, the first few gigs together (one of them being in the snow!), Jess’ Mom absolutely loving Lights and the Philippines connection as well as the process of learning the set! Jess also chats about what her day entails before getting on stage and Bowie talks about her upcoming DJ gigs in San Fran and LA and the dramas of flying with music gear!

Amanda Davis – FOH Engineer Janelle Monae, Tegan & Sara


This week we have a chinwag about the world of sound engineers on tour and why we feel there are so few females in that position. Afterward, we chat with Memphis native Amanda Davis, FOH (front of house) engineer for Janelle Monáe and Tegan and Sara. Amanda tells us about her first job as an audio engineer working at a church, to then working on a cruise ship, to getting a phone call from Janelle Monáe’s tour and production manager informing her that Monáe wanted a female FOH, and the rest is history.

Amanda tells us how she graduated with a BA in Vocal Performance before realizing she didn’t want to sing but wanted to stay in music, so she enrolled in an audio tech program at SAE in Atlanta. She tells us about her first job as an audio engineer working at a church, to then working on a cruise ship, to getting a phone call from Janelle Monáe’s tour and production manager informing her that Monáe wanted a female FOH, and the rest is history. Amanda is also the first call for one of our personal favorite’s, Tegan and Sara. We chat about all of this and more!
