Moby's Area: One Leads Festival Tours Back To America

The once fertile scene of Lollapalooza, Lilith Fair, the HORDE and Furthur has dried up in recent years, leaving the U.S. summer tour circuit a less festive place for traveling rock music festivals. So pop auteur Moby, in the wake of the success of his latest album, “Play,” has decided to do something about that. “I’ve spent a long time playing European festivals and was impressed by how eclectic and open they were,” explains Moby, whose Area: One tour opened Wednesday in Atlanta. “There was a period in the States where we had a few really interesting festivals…. When those… Read more »

Thousands Attend Cincinnati Festival

Thousands turned out Saturday for the opening of a city festival despite calls from some black activists for a boycott of the event to protest a police shooting that ignited days of rioting. Small groups of demonstrators moved through the crowds at the 22nd annual Taste of Cincinnati festival event passing out leaflets and chanting, “What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now.” The demonstrators said a boycott would pressure city officials to address racial tensions heightened by the April 7 shooting of a black man, 19-year-old Timothy Thomas, by a white officer. But the demonstrators were… Read more »

Jane's Addiction Tour Will Likely Be Part Of Festival

Jane’s Addiction are finalizing plans for a summer reunion tour, which looks to be part of a roving festival frontman Perry Farrell is organizing. “We’re going to be taking out a show. It’s probably going to have different influences coming together and creating an ensemble,” Jane’s guitarist Dave Navarro said, “more like a traveling circus – whereas in most circuses there isn’t much of a headliner, but there’s a lot of things. Some people like the trapeze. Some people like the clowns.” Management for Jane’s Addiction said the band might also tour separately from the festival, which has taken on… Read more »

L.S. Dunes Unleash Hypnotizing New Single “Fatal Deluxe”

Putting my journalist hat aside for just a moment: L.S. Dunes are one of the coolest fucking bands in the alternative space right now. Hat back on—ahead of their performance at Riot Fest this weekend, the Anthony Green-fronted supergroup has unleashed a hypnotizing new single, “Fatal Deluxe.” As the instrumentation ebbs and flows in a dynamic formula, shifting between moments of muted intensity and explosive energy, Green’s vocals are the heart of the track. His mesmerizing croons wrap each line in a dizzying warmth while his raspy shrieks pierce through the arrangement with force. “In my opinion, ‘Fatal Deluxe’ marks… Read more »
