Spears, Lopez Join MTV Kudos


MTV has signed up thrushes Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez to perform at the 18th annual Video Music Awards, scheduled for Sept. 6 in Gotham. Crows Set Fall Tour


The Counting Crows will road test material from their upcoming record when they head out on a thirty-four-date tour later this month. The road trip kicks off on August 18th in Englewood, Colorado and wraps up in Lawrence, Kansas on November 7th. Meanwhile, the Crows will continue working on their follow-up to 1999’s This Desert Life, due out next spring. Ron Townson Dies


Ron Townson, founding member of the Grammy winning pop group the 5th Dimension, died in his home in Las Vegas on August 2nd. Townson suffered renal failure after a four-year battle with kidney disease. He was sixty-eight. The St. Louis, Missouri native began singing at the age of six in school and church choirs, something he would do throughout his career. At Lincoln University in Jefferson City he directed university and church choirs. Throughout school Townson toured with the Wings Over Jordan Choir for eight years and served as conductor for two. Simon & Garfunkel Get Live


The first-ever live album from Simon and Garfunkel’s heyday as a duo will be released next year. The untitled collection was initially planned as a single-disc that compiled a series of 1967 concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, but plans for the album may now extend into 1968 with some additional shows outside Simon and Garfunkel’s hometown. Simon And Garfunkel To Issue Live Set From 1967


Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are helping assemble the first live album from Simon and Garfunkel’s prime years. The album, tentatively titled Live From New York City and due early next year, was recorded in 1967 at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center while the duo were supporting the 1966 record Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. Orange County act Corporate Avenger is seeing controversy continue to escalate as the release of their album approaches next week.
