Coldplay Plays Surprise Pub Gig

Coldplay took a break from recording its second album and squeezed into to a local London pub on Friday (November 23) to tune up for its upcoming American dates. The band, minus ill bassist Guy Berryman, performed at the Shepherd pub with “acoustic guitars, disco lights and a pub-singer P.A. system…hastily installed in the corner near the dartboard,” according to a report on the band’s official website (coldplay.com) by Coldplay guitar tech Matt McGinn. The trio played several of its own songs, including “Yellow,” “Trouble,” “Don’t Panic,” “Parachutes,” and the new “In My Place,” as well as covers of the… Read more »

Jennifer Lopez Says She's No Demanding Diva

Demanding diva? Spoiled superstar? “Not me,” insists sultry Latin actress-singer Jennifer Lopez. She says she’s just a “cool, nice person” who wants to make people feel good, who behaves like a professional and who never does anything “that is going to make it hard for me to sleep at night.” Two hit albums, a handful of movies, her own fashion line, and a wardrobe of plunging outfits have powered Lopez, 31, to mega stardom in less than two years. She has just played her first live pop concert – “the fulfillment of probably my biggest childhood dream” – which will… Read more »

Cue ear-splitting shrieks from millions of preteen girls. For Lance Bass, as most adults don’t know, is one-fifth of ‘N Sync, the mega-selling boy-band that has helped keep the music industry afloat in recent years. It’s hard to imagine ‘N Sync winning a Grammy Award for its lightweight pop. So – strange but true – Bass is setting his sights on winning a coveted Academy Award from stuffy Hollywood for his role as a moonlighting movie producer. The 22-year-old Mississippi native set up a movie production company earlier this year, naming it A Happy Place, and is holding meetings like… Read more »

Ticket sales out of tune for mid-level acts

While concert ticket sales have begun to rebound for top-level acts since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, it’s the medium-range and niche bands that have felt the pinch and are likely to suffer further, industry insiders said. Ticket sales for such mainstream acts as Madonna, U2, Elton John, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Buffett continue to be strong, while tours catering to a niche teen demographic are not selling as well. Notable examples, according to sources, include the Family Values Tour, featuring Linkin Park, Staind and Stone Temple Pilots, and the Pledge of Allegiance tour, which… Read more »
