Pearl Jam honors Joey Ramone on new single

Rock band Pearl Jam has paid tribute to late Ramones singer Joey Ramone on a recording released exclusively to Pearl Jam fan club members. A cover version of the pioneering punk band’s song “I Just Want To Have Something To Do” is one of four tracks featured on Pearl Jam’s annual 7-inch vinyl mailing. Ramone died of cancer last April, aged 49. The cover is actually a solo acoustic performance by Pearl Jam bass player Jeff Ament. “When Joey died this year, I sat down and played Ramones songs on my acoustic,” Ament said in his handwritten liner notes. “For… Read more »

Musician Joel Looks Back on Career

Billy Joel says if he’d been in a band all these years, “I would have broken up a long time ago.” Now he’s touring with Elton John, and couldn’t be happier. “When I went with Elton, it’s different than just being Billy Joel. It’s Billy Joel and Elton John. I get to play Elton John music. He plays my music. We play both our music together. I play with his band. He plays with my band…. We play piano on our own. We jam. We have piano duels. It’s kinda like joining a piano band,” Joel told AP Radio. Looking… Read more »

Sanctuary Records To Release Joey Ramone Album

After The Ramones hung up their jackets in 1996, Joey Ramone continued to work diligently writing and recording songs. Don’t Worry About Me, the result of these solo efforts, is already garnering recognition as his best work to date. Sadly, Joey succumbed to cancer in April 2001 at the age of 49. Producer, guitarist and long-time friend Daniel Rey worked alongside Joey on Don’t Worry About Me from day one. He recently completed final mixes on songs that hadn’t been mixed prior to Joey’s passing. Joey recruited world-class bassist Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) and split the drumming between Frank Funaro… Read more »

Joe Hopes Faith, Mary J., More Join Him For Duets LP

While his new album, Better Days, arrived in stores on Tuesday, Joe has started working on another LP that he promises will come “sooner rather than later.” “I started already,” Joe said of the record late last month. He hopes it will be an album of duets reminiscent of when “Marvin [Gaye] did the Tammi Terrell thing.” Joe named Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, and Alicia Keys on his list of potential partners in the studio. “I’m going to get everybody,” he said. “Mariah [Carey], the whole nine. I want an album like that. Joey's Final CD "Life-Affirming"

After the Ramones said “Adios amigos” for the final time in 1996, singer Joey Ramone wasted no time in starting the recording of what would unfortunately turn out to be his posthumous solo album, Don’t Worry About Me, due out February 18th on Sanctuary Records. Ramone died April 15th of lymphatic cancer. “We started right after the Ramones’ last show,” says producer Daniel Rey, who has also worked with the Ramones themselves and White Zombie. “We cut the music pretty quickly, and then Joey just took his time on the vocals. We recorded a couple songs at a time. We… Read more »

Joe Gets Caught Crushin', Envisions Being A Woman On Better Days

Just a little over a year after dropping his multiplatinum third LP, My Name Is Joe, the album’s namesake is preparing to release a follow-up, Better Days, on December 4, his quickest album turnaround ever. “I’m at a good label now,” he said with a smile. “The freedom there is a lot better than it was before. I wasn’t happy where I was, which was Mercury [Records].” The strife caused by recording for Mercury was nothing compared to the anxiety he suffered in the wake of the September 11 attacks. On that unforgettable day, he was sitting in his new… Read more »

Joey Ramone Place: Where Punk Lives Forever

It’s official. The corner of East Second Street and the Bowery in the East Village, just a few steps from legendary punk haven CBGB, will be known as Joey Ramone Place, after a request for an honorary street sign was approved by the local community board Thursday. Twenty-year-old Staten Island resident Maureen Wojciechowski brought the proposal to Community Board 3’s attention in October and was asked to come back with a petition signed by local residents and businesses supporting her plan to honor the late punk icon, who died in April. On November 7, she returned with more than 300… Read more »

Joey Ramone May Get His Way

More than six months after Joey Ramone’s death from lymphatic cancer, the Ramones frontman may have the corner of East Second Street and the Bowery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side named for him. A proposition before Community Board 3 would rename the corner, which neighbors the legendary club CBGB’s where the Ramones got their start, Joey Ramone Way. Longtime resident and CBGB club owner Hilly Kristal believes that Ramone embodied the spirit of punk and the Lower East Side. “He represents a new ilk of musicians and artists, and it crosses lines from music into art into theater because everybody… Read more »
