Emmy Show Alters Focus: Less Mirth, More Security

The Emmy show will go on, but it will be a much different affair than in years past. CBS and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences confirmed Tuesday that venerable CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite will give the opening remarks in the Oct. 7 telecast, which was postponed from Sept. 16 in the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. “It will not be the Emmy Awards as usual,” said Don Mischer, executive producer of the three-hour telecast. Ellen DeGeneres will remain as host, but there will be limited music and comedy bits and no political… Read more »

Jay-Z Dogged By Bootleggers Again, The Blueprint To Come Early

It seems that if Jay-Z wants to keep his future albums from hitting the streets before their proper release dates, he’ll have to hire a security detail that rivals the size of the secret service team in his video for “Izzo (H.O.V.A.).” Bootleggers in New York started selling two versions of Jay’s album The Blueprint last week, and on Tuesday (September 4), Def Jam announced that it has once again pushed the LP’s release date up one week, this time from September 18 to September 11. The Blueprint was originally set for release September 25, though that was changed by… Read more »

U.K. Boy Band Not So Blue At No. 1

British boy band Blue left their rivals seeing red on Sunday after reaching number one in the UK pop charts. The R&B quartet knocked Five’s “Let’s Dance” off the top with their second single, “Too Close,” a soul-inspired cover of Next’s 1998 hit. The Blue boys – Duncan James, Anthony Costa, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe – beat stiff competition for the top slot from Spice Girl Emma Bunton and ex-Eternal member Louise. Blue surprised many in the industry when their debut single “All Rise” spent five weeks in the top ten earlier this year. Louise entered this week’s chart… Read more »

Good Charlotte Off To A Good Start

Despite it being the basis of their latest single, Good Charlotte don’t need much motivation these days. Twin brothers Joel and Benji, whose “The Motivation Proclamation” is getting increasing spins at radio and video outlets, didn’t have to be asked twice to appear as prom entertainment in the upcoming comedy “Teen Movie,” nor did it take much prodding to get them to accept an invitation from the Vans Warped Tour. Lately, Good Charlotte’s drive and enthusiasm rivals even the most ambitious up-and-comers, however that wasn’t always the case. “There was a point, especially before we got signed, when there was… Read more »
