Green Day vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong is set for a pre-trial hearing February 19 in Alameda County Superior Court for two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. Armstrong will not be there as his legal counsel, Laurel L. Headley, is on the case. Armstrong did not attend his arraignment on February 4, but was represented by his counsel. Billy Joel Released From Hospital


“Piano Man” Billy Joel was hospitalized for several hours early Sunday after smashing his car into a tree along a highway on far eastern Long Island. A hospital spokesman confirmed that the singer was released Sunday morning but would not comment on Joel’s injuries. The 53-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had swerved into the tree as he was driving his Mercedes-Benz in Sag Harbor late Saturday, Sag Harbor Village Police Chief Thomas Fabiano said. Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong was arrested early Sunday in Berkeley, California, for driving under the influence. The punk-rocker was pulled over just before 1 a.m. after authorities spotted his black BMW convertible speeding, according to Berkeley Police spokesperson Mary Kusmiss. After Armstrong failed sobriety and Breathalyzer tests, he was taken to jail and booked for misdemeanor drunk driving. Clash Frontman Joe Strummer Cremated


The funeral for punk-rock legend Joe Strummer was held Monday (December 30) in West London. The former leader of the Clash, born John Mellor, died at the age of 50 of a heart attack at his home on December 23 after taking his dog for a walk. It is believed that Strummer had a hereditary heart condition, according to the BBC. Strummer’s funeral was held in private at West London Crematorium. Joe Strummer, lead singer for seminal British punk band the Clash, has died at the age of 50. Strummer, who was the band’s guitarist, vocalist and songwriter alongside Mick Jones, died on Sunday at his farmhouse in Somerset, southwestern England. Rock stars Bob Dylan (news), Billy Joel (news) and James Taylor (news) filed a lawsuit against Vivendi Universal’s MP3.com music Web site for allegedly distributing their songs without authorization, sources familiar with the suit said on Tuesday.
