The striking Hollywood writers guild said Tuesday it will refrain from picketing the upcoming Grammy Awards, possibly allowing the music ceremony to escape the fate of the wrecked Golden Globes show. The guild’s board of directors has yet to grant the music industry show a waiver that would allow union writers to work on the ceremony, but the Grammys typically depend more on performances than scripted lines or comedy. Eminem is recovering from a bout with pneumonia that sent him to the hospital. “Over the holidays, Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, was under doctor’s care at a Detroit-area hospital for complications due to pneumonia,” the rapper’s publicist, Dennis Dennehy, said Tuesday. “He has since been released and is doing well recovering at home.” Eminem’s illness first was reported by celebrity Web site TMZ.com. Two people injured when pyrotechnics went awry at Beyonce Knowles’ concert in St. Louis received a surprise emergency room visit from the singer. The accident happened Sunday night, just as the R&B star’s concert began. A spokeswoman for Scottrade Center didn’t return phone calls seeking comment, but broadcast reports said pyrotechnics meant for the stage accidentally spilled into the front row. Two concertgoers were taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Spokeswoman Kathy Holleman wouldn’t release their names but said the injuries were minor. Both were expected to make a full recovery. The Smashing Pumpkins announced Monday they will give nine concerts in Asheville and eight in San Francisco this summer in the band’s first residencies in more than a decade. The band will perform at the Orange Peel in Asheville on dates from June 23 to July 5, and at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on dates from July 22 to August 1.
