A reunion concert by two former members of 1960s band the Doors has sparked a lawsuit by a third member, who says they can call themselves “the Windows, the Hinges,” but not “the Doors.” Drummer John Densmore filed a legal action in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday charging breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition against keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger. Phil Spector, the legendary record producer whose “wall of sound” helped change the sound of pop music in the 1960s, was arrested Monday for allegedly shooting a woman to death at his suburban mansion. Spector, 62, was seized at the castle-like estate around 5 a.m. after someone in the home called authorities. He was released shortly after 7 p.m. after posting $1 million bond, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Rich Pena. Attorney Robert Shapiro, whose clients have included O.J. The funeral for punk-rock legend Joe Strummer was held Monday (December 30) in West London. The former leader of the Clash, born John Mellor, died at the age of 50 of a heart attack at his home on December 23 after taking his dog for a walk. It is believed that Strummer had a hereditary heart condition, according to the BBC. Strummer’s funeral was held in private at West London Crematorium. Two of Jim Morrison’s old pals from The Doors had hoped to debut a reconstituted version of the band next week, but they’ll have to wait until next year because their new drummer, Stewart Copeland, broke his arm. Copeland, a former member of the Sting-fronted rock trio The Police, was injured during the Thanksgiving holiday when he fell from his bicycle on a path near his Los Angeles home, the band’s publicists said on Monday. The members of pop-rock group Jimmy Eat World are coming back to their hometown Friday to play a benefit concert for victims of the Rodeo-Chediski wildfire. “It’s for the underinsured or the non-insured residents of the Heber-Overgaard area of Arizona which was pretty toasted by fires,” said singer-guitarist Jim Adkins. “Our drummer, his grandparents had a home over there that was destroyed.” The concert will be held at the Mesa Amphitheatre. The wildfire scorched about 469,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes in Heber-Overgaard and Linden this summer. Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone died of an apparent drug overdose in Hollywood on Wednesday (June 5). Dee Dee Ramone, a founding member of punk pioneers the Ramones, died Wednesday night in his Hollywood home, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. The bassist was 50 Ramone (born Douglas Glenn Colvin) was found unresponsive by his wife around 8:40 p.m. She called police, and fire department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. A coroner’s office spokesperson said the case will be treated as a possible accidental drug overdose. Investigators found a syringe and other drug paraphernalia on Ramone’s kitchen counter. Trey Anastasio spent 17 years ripping genres apart and sticking them back together at odd angles with the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink uber-jam band Phish.
