Eminem Goes 'Off the Leash' on New Album

Eminem may still be on probation for brandishing a gun two years ago in a jealous rage, but the bad-boy rap artist makes clear on his latest album how close he might have come to doing time for murder. In one of the most chilling passages from “The Eminem Show,” his anxiously awaited third release, the Detroit-based rapper recounts pulling an unloaded pistol on his then-wife, Kim Mathers, and a friend he claimed she was kissing outside a suburban Detroit bar. “The smartest (thing) I did was take the bullets out of the gun, ’cause I’d’ve killed ’em/I would’ve shot… Read more »

Jerry Cantrell Delivers Bittersweet, AIC-Heavy Set At Nickelback Gig – Review

Roughly one month after the tragic death of his close friend and former bandmate Layne Staley, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell returned to the town that made them both famous, and despite the feeling that a big hole existed where his former partner once stood, it was a rocking, if bittersweet, trip back in time. With plenty of classic AIC material in tow, Cantrell took a sparse but enthusiastic audience at Key Arena on Friday back to the halcyon days of the early ’90s – a time of lank hair, big angst and bigger guitars, before the Bizkit and its… Read more »

*NSYNC singer Lance Bass recently underwent an outpatient “surgical procedure” to correct an irregular heartbeat, his publicist told Reuters on Thursday (May 16). The procedure was performed several weeks ago in order for the singer to be able to pass the intensive training required to become the world’s first pop singer to take a Russian Soyuz rocket to the International Space Station. The surgery was an outpatient procedure and Bass is doing well. The singer’s heart condition was “not even remotely life-threatening,” Bass’ publicist told Reuters. “It’s something he had wanted to correct for a long time, but being that… Read more »

Side Project From Modest Mouse Singer Is Typically Twisted

Sometimes the occasional beer interrupts a recording session. Other times, all that recording just gets in the way of a good party. The sessions for Sharpen Your Teeth (May 21), the debut from Modest Mouse singer Isaac Brock’s Ugly Casanova side project, had some of the former and way too much of the latter. Recording the atmospheric album “involved a lot of beers, some recording, then some beers and more recording, if we got to it,” said Brock, 26. “It was largely a hangout with recording involved.” But who is Ugly Casanova? Well, if you believe the elaborate story cooked… Read more »

Collarbone, Not Spirit, Broken As Jewel Resumes Tour Early

Her collarbone may be broken, but her spirit seems barely bruised, given Jewel’s plans to resume touring earlier than expected. She’ll return to the stage Monday for shows that looked as though they wouldn’t happen after she fell from a horse on April 24, according to an Atlantic Records spokesperson. Doctors had suggested she not perform for at least a month. The singer’s first day back in the saddle, so to speak, will be May 13 in Stuttgart, Germany. Although she’s capable of singing, she won’t be able to play guitar. Only two dates of her European tour – May… Read more »
