Plain White T's Revive the Name Game

There was a time when girls’ names ruled the Hot 100. In 1962, Tommy Roe’s “Sheila” was succeeded by the Four Seasons’ “Sherry.” But it’s become much rarer to see a girl’s name in the No. 1 spot. Until this past week, the only chart-topper with a girl’s name this millennium was “Maria Maria” by Santana featuring the Product G&B, and that was back in 2000. A move from No. 2 to No. 1 finds “Hey There Delilah” (Hollywood Records) by the Plain White T’s on top of the chart. It’s the first time the name “Delilah” has been featured… Read more »

Concert celebrates Diana's 46th birthday

Waving their arms in the air and dancing with 70,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium, princes William and Harry celebrated the life of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 46th birthday Sunday at a concert they organized. William, 25, rocked his hips as Canadian pop star Nelly Furtado belted out her song “Man Eater” – to the embarrassment of younger brother Harry, who shook his head and laughed. Harry, 22, said they asked Elton John to play “Candle in the Wind,” the song he sang at Diana’s 1997 funeral in Westminster Abbey. Originally about Marilyn Monroe,… Read more »

Weezer Isn't Done Yet; Online Post Promises Sixth Album

Last time we heard from Weezer, frontman Rivers Cuomo said they were “done.” Cooked. Put on ice … again. All of a sudden, though, it seems like things have ramped back up for the band that is more on-again/off-again than a Brittany Murphy engagement. Months after a mysterious Web site with the vague name AlbumSix.com began redirecting traffic to Weezer’s homepage, a note was posted on both sites on Monday announcing that the group was not only back together, but about to wrap up work on a yet-untitled sixth album. A post titled “Yams, clams, flans, plans, shams, crans and glands”… Read more »

Wentz, 28, is the eyelinered heartthrob and bassist of punk band Fall Out Boy; but this dinner was in celebration of the hit single just released by another band, Panic! At the Disco, which records on Wentz’s own label, Decaydance. “He asked me, ‘What do you want out of life, Pete?’” Wentz says. His answer was flip: business cards. The next day he received a stack of cards listing his name and a new title:… Read more »

Spice Girls Reunion Just a Well-Seasoned Rumor?

The Spice Girls are still oceans apart when it comes to getting together. First, it was Live 8 in 2005, and this time it’s the July 1 tribute to Princess Diana that the ’90s-era British pop stars will not be performing at, sticking a fork in yet another rumor that Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger and Posh are ready to take the stage again. “Despite media speculation at this time, there is no confirmation of a Spice reunion,” Victoria Beckham’s rep, Cheryl Maisel, told E!
