Pete Doherty moves in with Shane McGowan

Chaotic rock star Pete Doherty has said he will move in with Shane McGowan after his most recent stint in rehab. The Babyshambles frontman is undergoing yet another legally enforced attempt to kick his addictions to heroin and crack cocaine. When he comes out of rehab, however, he will have nowhere to live and will therefore move in with the wild-living Pogues singer Shane McGowan above North London rock ‘n’ roll haunt the Boogaloo Bar. Babyshambles’ new album Shotters Nation, which has received positive reviews, will be released in the U.K. on October 1.

Kristal died on Tuesday from complications of lung cancer, his daughter, Lisa Kristal Burgman, said. He founded the club in 1973 hoping to showcase country music, calling it CBGB & OMFUG, for “Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gourmandizers.” But the club drew few country acts and instead became a breeding ground for punk rock, playing host to the likes of Patti Smith, Television, Living Colour as… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Frontman Stumped Over Supposed Involvement In Ashlee Simpson Collabo

Hey, did you hear about that collaboration between Ashlee Simpson, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump and Cobra Starship keytar player Victoria Asher? Yeah, they totally got together for a slinky little synth number called “Black and Light,” which Asher made available for download on her MySpace page earlier this week.”I recorded keys, Patrick Stump recorded the bass and drums with MIDI and Ashlee Simpson helped me with some of the lyrics,” she wrote in a blog entry about the song. “All and all pretty collaborative. It’s short, a bit dark … and yet a bit dancey.” It seemed like a… Read more »

Go! Team returns to indies after one-shot Sony deal

In 2004, U.K.-based independent label Memphis Industries released the sample-heavy, intentionally lo-fi and daringly jarring “Thunder, Lightning, Strike,” the Go! Team’s debut full-length CD. The buzz was deafening, so in 2005, the label entered a joint venture with Sony BMG to distribute the album internationally, with the major’s Columbia subsidiary handling it in the United States. It’s a turn of events that every band dreams of — unless that band is the Go! Team. The brainchild of Ian Parton, the Go! Team was never supposed to be mainstream. Parton set out to make “dirty” pop songs — danceable, catchy tunes… Read more »

Robert is still recording,” a Geffen Records spokeswoman said from New York, referring to the band’s frontman Robert Smith. Smith told Reuters in an interview late last year that he was struggling to come up with lyrics to some of the 33 new songs he and the band had recorded.
