Nickelback and former Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell will be joined by Default on the Jim Beam Road To The Rackhouse Tour, which kicks off Monday (May 13) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Default’s last-minute addition comes after its own plans-serving as the opening act of Creed’s national tour-were canceled after the tour was postponed due to an injury to Creed frontman Scott Stapp. The development means that Default is once again reunited with fellow Canadians, longtime friends, and frequent tour mates Nickelback. Before heading out on the Anger Management tour in late July along with Eminem, Ludacris and X-ecutioners, Papa Roach will play a series of other live dates, including various radio festivals. The band plays Petaluma, California, tonight and wraps up in Seattle on June 22nd. On June 18th, Papa Roach will release their second album, lovehatetragedy. Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley died from a mixture of heroin and cocaine, an autopsy and toxicology report revealed Monday. Laboratory results determined the singer died April 5, according to a spokesperson for the King County medical examiner’s office, the same day fellow grunge pioneer Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. Staley was found dead two weeks later, surrounded by intravenous drug paraphernalia in his Seattle apartment. The Get Up Kids are set to release their third album and will hit the road to support it beginning May 24. The 12-track On a Wire is scheduled for release May 14, according to a Vagrant Records spokesperson. “Overdue” will be the leadoff single from the LP, which was produced by Scott Litt (Incubus, R.E.M.). With funeral plans remaining to be announced, family, friends and fans said a second good-bye to the late Layne Staley on Friday night. Though the singer’s Alice in Chains bandmates, friends and family members gathered on April 20, the day after police first discovered Staley’s body in his home, for a small and impromptu candlight vigil, fans then organized a much larger eulogy to the singer at the same location, the International Fountain at the Seattle Center.
