Just when some old-school Metallica fans were ready to write the band off for crafting St. Anger – which prominently features a snare drum that sounds like a screwdriver hitting a trashcan – and for playing snippets of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and Lenny Kravitz’s “Are you Gonna Go My Way” at the VMAs, the band has redeemed itself. Still steaming over what he considers a false arrest, Fabolous plans to sue the city of New York for $5 million, according to a notice filed by his lawyer. The rapper, whose real name is John Jackson, was arrested March 24 on criminal weapons possession charges following a performance at Webster Hall. After the show, police stopped the van the rapper was traveling in and found a loaded 9 mm handgun. The White Stripes will hit the dead leaves and dirty ground of New York’s Union Square on Tuesday to play a free show. The noon performance is the latest in a series of guerilla concerts staged by Nissan. Train played the first gig, in St. Louis on September 17, followed by Pink in Chicago, Eve in Philadelphia, Dashboard Confessional in Boston, Enrique Iglesias in Brooklyn and Cheap Trick in Ann Arbor, Michigan. New York punks old and new paid tribute to Dee Dee Ramone on Tuesday with a concert at the downtown club the Continental, where the legendary Ramones bassist had gigged frequently in recent years. The Toilet Boys, Star Spangles and Charm School appeared on the bill along with the trio of Marky Ramone (drums), C.J.
