Ozzfest 2001 drew to a close Sunday, leaving many fans wondering what the future holds for their favorite bands. Whether it’s working on a new album, heading back out on the road or prepping their next video, to cop a metal cliché from Ozzy’s 1989 solo album, there seems to be no rest for the wicked. For those who missed out on this summer’s hardest happening, the live album Ozzfest 2001: The Second Millennium, featuring live cuts from all the Ozzfest offenders, hits stores Tuesday. Black Sabbath are hoping to book more studio time to finish up their new album,… Read more »

Radiohead: Meeting People Finally Is Easy

On their first U.S. jaunt in three years, Radiohead have overcome their fears of touring the States by coming to terms with their popularity and acclaim. With last year’s Kid A and the recently released Amnesiac debuting at #1 and #2, respectively, and selling more than a million copies combined, according to SoundScan… well, to quote the title of the film documenting the band’s grueling tour supporting their third album, 1997’s OK Computer, meeting people really is easy. “I really didn’t think I could deal with it at all,” frontman Thom Yorke said after the band’s performance at the Red… Read more »

Dido Talks Tour, Britney

On Dido’s North American tour, which kicks off next week in Vancouver, she’ll offer fans a preview of her next album. In addition to performing material from her triple-platinum No Angel (which was propelled by Eminem sampling the track “Thank You” for his song “Stan”), the British chanteuse will introduce three new songs into her set, “See the Sun,” “Don’t Leave Home” and “Do You Have a Little Time.” Although she has most of the new material written for her sophomore effort, fear of having them exposed via the Internet will keep her from debuting any more of the tracks… Read more »

Columbia Records On-Board Ozzfest 2001 With Crazy Town, The Union Underground, And American Head Charge

Columbia Records’ Crazy Town, Portrait/Columbia Records’ The Union Underground and American Recordings/Columbia Records’ American Head Charge have all signed on-board on what just might be the heaviest Ozzfest ever. Following a big British blow-out at the Milton Keynes Bowl in England on May 26, Ozzfest 2001 opens full-force stateside at the World Amphitheater in Chicago, Illinois. Launched by the heavy metal pioneer and visionary Ozzy Osbourne, the first Ozzfest, a multi-band festival held in 1996, hit only two markets-Los Angeles and Phoenix-but paved the way for a full-on touring extravaganza the next year. Since then, the Ozzfest has become a… Read more »

Durst Catches 'Runt' For Directing Bow

Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst, eager to become a movie director, is now eyeing a different project on which to make his debut. Daily Variety reported on Monday that he would shoot “Life Without Joe,” a thriller described as “Deliverance” for the younger set. But Durst told Daily Variety on Tuesday he wants to launch his career with “Runt.” “‘Runt’ needs to be done now,” he said. “I made a band so I could direct videos and then direct a movie.” The $10 million project is the story of a teen who is endlessly taunted and persecuted by a trio… Read more »

Weezer Go Green – "The Green Album" Due May 15th

Following much hemming and boatload of hawing, all is set in stone for Weezer’s many-moons-in-the-making third album. Produced by Ric Ocasek, The Green Album will drop as planned on May 15th, it’s cover art closely resembling that of the band’s eponymous debut (lovingly called “The Blue Album”) – a picture of the foursome against a solid backdrop. The nod to their 1994 nerd-core breakthrough is no doubt intentional, a clear signal that Rivers Cuomo and Co. have returned, at least in part, to the signature neo-New Wave sound somewhat absent from 1996’s poorer-selling second album, Pinkerton. According to a posting… Read more »

Coldplay Giving U.S. Another Shot

After cutting short a brief North American trek in February, Coldplay have announced plans to return to the States later this spring for a more extensive tour, set to kick off May 24 in Boston. Coldplay pulled the plug on a New York gig on February 16 – and abandoned shows in Boston… Read more »
