As promised yesterday, we’re back to update you on the remaining categories in Chart’s Year End Readers’ Poll. Yesterday we reported that
Simple Plan were leading the votes in the music-based categories, but who are our readers rooting for in the Sexiest Canadian Musician categories?
At press time, about 600 of you had filled out the poll and the majority of you fancy Pierre Bouvier, lead singer of Simple Plan. In a distant second place in our Throw Your Underwear (Male) category is The Tea Party’s Jeff Martin, followed by the more, er, mature William Shatner, who is quite surprisingly beating out the likes of Sam Roberts, Ian Thornley, Hawksley Workman and perennial favourite Todd Kerns.
In the ladies corner, the newly glammed-up Avril Lavigne is currently leading in the Throw Your Underwear (Female) category. Barbie-fied Avril is followed by Sarah McLachlan and Melissa Auf Der Maur, who recently got a boost in exposure thanks to her part in The Greatest Canadian series on the CBC (hey, she’s certainly a sexier spokesperson than Rex Murphy). Other women faring well in our poll include Shania Twain, Holly McNarland, Emily Haines of Metric and Sarah Slean.
As for our Lord Mullet Of Stanley (Best Haircut) Award, the current favourite is Pierre Bouvier, whose sexiness apparently stems from his meticulous pseudo-fauxhawk. You’re also digging Billy Talent guitarist Ian D’Sa ‘s gravity-defying punk rock pomp, Jeff Martin and Todd Kerns’ raven locks, Sam Roberts’ shag and former champ Chris Murphy ‘s still-popular ‘do. What, no women in Canada have nice hair? The leading gal in the category is Alanis Morissette who, at press time, holds a mere four per cent of the vote share.
In the world of trends, your votes are mixed in the Follow The Herd (Stupidest Trend) category. One thing is sure, though – while the networks become increasingly reliant on shows like The Swan, Wife Swap and The Biggest Loser, you’re not happy with the trend towards increasingly degrading reality TV, which has received the most votes so far. You’re also way sick of Canadian Idol, hockey players as highly paid divas, low carb diets and those fuzzy boots.
As far as musical trends go, in keeping with tradition, Canadian Rock is ruling the That Rocked (Sweet Happenings In Music This Year) Award. You also support Creed breaking up, The Pixies ‘ reunion, William Shatner’s cover of Pulp’s “Common People” and the Apple iPod. What don’t you like? The leaders in the That Sucked (Stinky Happenings In Music This Year) Award are Paris Hilton getting a record deal, William Hung, the current MuchMusic VJs and Ashlee Simpson ‘s lip synching scandal.
