The White Stripes bring their garage-rock sound to Romania this weekend. The duo is set to perform at a cast party Saturday (November 23) hosted by some members of the cast of Cold Mountain. The Civil War-era film is currently shooting in Romania with stars Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, and Renee Zellweger, and White Stripes singer-guitarist Jack White also appears as a musician and soldier who deserts his troop during the war. White performs music in the film as well, including folk and blues standards such as “Wayfaring Stranger” and “Sittin’ On Top Of The World.”
White said that he already knew the songs before he auditioned for the film. “‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ was the first blues song I learned how to play-from Howlin’ Wolf’s version, when I was a teenager, actually-so I had known that. And I knew ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ from a band I was in called Two-Star Tabernacle-we had played that song. So when I went to audition for the director, I, I already knew how to play that song.”
T-Bone Burnett (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood) is producing the soundtrack for Cold Mountain, which is expected in theaters next summer or fall.
