WE ARE SO BACK, BABY! We’ve heard a lot from Awsten Knight this year—between collaborations alongside 5 Seconds Of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford as well as Sorry My Love—he’s been booked and busy. But now we’re FINALLY hearing from Waterparks themselves. Marking their first official release of 2025 and the first real taste of new material since 2023’s Intellectual Property, the trio has dropped their latest sonic serotonin shot: “Red Guitar.” And while Knight insists we hear red, all signs point to yellow.
On June 20, the band announced they’d be crashing the Reading & Leeds lineup on August 22, on the Main Stage, and by June 30, they changed over their social media visuals to all yellow (that’s not a Coldplay pun, get it out of your head). Continuing to tease their new look, the band then shared the presave details for their new release with the caption “ABOUT TIME.” Which… mood.
In the lead-up to the single’s release, Waterparks also revealed two major career moves: signing a new record deal with BMG (they shared, “don’t worry, it’s a good one”) and locking in management with Range Media, which—yes—is also home to M. Night Shyamalan. Plot twist pending? Make it happen, Awsten!
To top it all off, Knight declared on Instagram Stories: “The most important era of Waterparks begins tonight.”
In a press release, he also shares, This is the first song back from the best band in the world, Waterparks. After a year of trials and tribulations, we have arisen from the smoke, like Captain America — maybe Iron Man instead. I haven’t seen most of those movies. However Infinity War ended, probably. RIP Ant Man. This is the best song from a band in the last 10 years, ask anyone. Either this song or the next one will be our biggest one, again, ask anyone. RIP Iron Man. Stream the song until we make physicals and then go buy one of those. It’s a plaque attack, baby. I love you. God help us all. Thanks!”
