VH1 And VH1.Com Announce The Second-Annual 'My VH1 Music Awards'

VH1 and VH1.com today announced the return of the “My VH1 Music Awards,” the only fully-interactive music awards show created entirely by the fans. “My VH1 Music Awards” will air live on VH1 on December 2nd at 9:00pm (ET) from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

“My VH1 Music Awards,” which debuted in November, 2000, is designed from start-to-finish by music fans who log on to VH1.com to suggest and vote for categories, nominees, winners, and more.

Beginning today, fans can log-on to VH1.com to suggest award categories and nominees for this year’s show. For this year’s ceremony VH1 will also give fans the opportunity to design the “My VH1 Music Awards” award. Fans can submit their designs online at VH1.com through September 30. The winning design will be turned into the “My VH1 Music Awards” trophy handed out to the winners at this year’s ceremony.

On October 1st, VH1 will announce the award categories. At that time, fans can start voting for nominees within each category.

Then, beginning November 2nd, five nominees in each category will be announced and VH1.com users will begin the final voting for a winner. Voting will continue right up-to-the moment when the awards are presented live during the “My VH1 Music Awards” on December 2nd.

Last year’s “My VH1 Music Awards” took in nearly five million online votes in fan-suggested award categories like, “Your Song Kicked Ass, But Was Played Too Damn Much,” “Best Booty Shake,” and “Best Stage Spectacle.”

Creed was the big winner at the 2000 “My VH1 Music Awards,” taking home four awards including “Song of the Year,” “Welcome to the Big Time,” “Group of the Year,” and “2 For 2.” The star-studded show also featured performances from U2, No Doubt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, and Christina Aguilera.

The host and musical guests for the 2001 “My VH1 Music Awards” will be announced at a later date. The “My VH1 Music Awards” is sponsored by The All New 2002 Toyota Camry, 1 800 Call ATT for collect calls, L’Oreal, MasterCard International and Old Navy.

The Executive Producers of “My VH1 Music Awards” are Kanpai Pictures’ Jay Karas and Andee Kuroda; Executive Producers for VH1 are Fred Graver and Lee Rolontz.
